Re: craziest thing you ever saw while hunting
I don't know if it's as "unusual" as the thread dictates but about 10 years ago while on a pheasant hunt in north Texas, about 15 of us in a line were walking across a milo field. Out of the corner of our eye we see something running across the rows way out in front of us. Turns out it was a bobcat. My brother happened to have a couple of 3 1/2" mags in something like "T" or "BB" with him. He threw them in the gun in about 1/2 a second and put the whammy on that cat. Didn't kill it completely but brought it down and we finished it off up close. Mounted it with a pheasant a few months later. Very slick mount.

Re: craziest thing you ever saw while hunting
I once saw a couple of hunters returning home after a successful hunt. They were driving older two-door Plymouth Neon and had a decent buck hanging out of the trunk and another in the back seat. I still don’t know how they managed to wrestle that thing in there. I never have the camera when I need it!

Re: craziest thing you ever saw while hunting
When I went mule deer hunting this year, I sat in a small clump of oak brush in the middle of an open field. I had been sitting there for about 30 minutes when two doe and two fawns came into the field. After about 15 minutes, the fawns were showing their spunk and started chasing each other. Then they decided to play ring around the oak brush. After they made 4-5 laps around me, the does joined in. After another 6-7 laps, I was starting to get a little nervous, and then the two fawns decided to run through the oak brush. They only missed hitting me by about a foot or two on either side. After this my nerves were completely shot. They moved off and were playing about 30 yards away and I decided I had had enough. I got up and walked back to the truck. My father had been sitting in the truck watching the whole event take place. He couldn't stop laughing. He told me that he was watching the does and fawns running around me and the buck (that I couldn't see) was about sixty yards away from me, watching the does and fawns playing.

My last outing for duck, quail and pheasant, we came across a dead cow on an island in the middle of the snake river.

Re: craziest thing you ever saw while hunting
I didn't witness this, but a few years ago my uncle took two nephews hunting. One was about 13,the other 17.The older one has celebral palsy, the other one not handicapped.Anway they went out and the younger nephew shot a deer. It was hit and took off slowly. My uncle then put the rifle in my other nephews hands and told him to shoot. He did, missed by a mile, and the deer fell dead.So it became his deer.

Re: craziest thing you ever saw while hunting
Last week, while deer hunting in New Mexico, I saw the most unusual sight. I was going down a trail just before sunup and saw something in the grass just off the trail. As I approached, I could see that it was an owl wrestling with a snake! They were both rolling around not paying me any attention, but I figured that the owl would soon have things under control. Not wanting to deprive the owl of his breakfast, I let them be and continued on. 3 1/2 hours later I come back by and see the owl still there. He is laying flat of his back, wings outstretched and not moving. As I get right up to him (3-4 feet) I can see that the owl is just barely breathing. Only now the snake has the upper hand. It is wrapped around the owl's neck. It was a gopher snake (a constrictor). The owl definitely had that "I'm screwed" look. I put my gloves on and carefully got the snake unwrapped. The owl did not fight me, he was just too worn out. Finally he jumped up and flew off about 50 feet and landed, too tired to go any further. The snake just laid there. I'll bet next time the owl picks out a smaller target.

Re: craziest thing you ever saw while hunting
I got up one morning to go deer hunting, great morning fresh 1 1/2" of snow and still snowing really good. Walking out to my spot, on the way I see deer tracks in the field leading to the woods. Look and a doe is just exspiring. Someone was hunting on the property with out permission, next farms are far away, and they were hunting with a bow during gun season. I yelled "thank you", then heard the person on the other side of the field in the other tree line walking away, as I started to field dress the deer
