CVA Buckhorn

Hey guys I just got one of these, not really sure how good/reliable they are. I'd like some feedback on it though, if you have one or have used one. Are they good guns?

Also whats with the level on the side, does it stay pulled back or do you close it once you have the primer in, It seems like you leave it open, but that makes no sense if moisture or rain gets to the powder through the plug, I'm just thinking outloud here

I owned a Buckhorn for awhile.It shot accurate but was a pain to clean when compared to some other rifles I own.Just takes a little more time to clean.You must leave the bolt pulled back when loaded ,other wise there is danger of the hammer getting bumped and fireing the rifle.On my rifle when closed the bolt hammer set right against the primer.I sold mine because I have other rifles I prefer t shoot,but it did shoot well.

Yeah the fact you have to leave the lever open worries me about moisture and such, not sure whether to go back and spend a little more for a break open or not. Cleaning isn't bad, until you clean a TC renegade, those are a pain. It shoots 209 primers right? at least I hope, thanks for the reply Rooster.

Yes it takes the 209 primer.These rifles will shoot as good as any and take a little more time to clean.Use a little care while out hunting to not get too much moisture arround the primer.I think you can still buy a cover for these type of rifles to cover the primer area or just make your own to use on wet days.I use to shoot a Knight that I made a cover for that velcroed arround the rifle to keep out moisture.

My buckhorn was a great shooter went to a Wolf because I didn't like the fact the bolt stays open allowing the weather in next to the primer and always making sure that debris didn't get in to interfere with firing.
