I wish they would have made that one in Brookville (20 minutes from my house).

The Xanadu store is still a go as far as I know. The only information I can give out is that it is what we have on our retail store page which has all that I know and all that has been made public. Sorry everyone that is all I have for an explination on new stores.

Here is the link to that page.

I hope you guys really gussy up the outside of the GJ store to resemble your other stores. Maybe it will inspire the owners of the Mesa Mall to dress up the rest of the mall's exterior and get rid of it's dated, 70's vintage facade. Welcome to Grand Junction.

Thank you Cabelas for coming to G.J. Look forward to the grand opening. I live 30 miles from Glenwood Springs. Gun shops and hunting related stores are few and far between in this area. Thanks again.

Bass Pro Shops has been jerking the City of Buffalo and NYS for over 5 years on a store in downtown Buffalo....but still no real agreement has been signed other than a letter of intent which means nothing.......the city has just about completed the demolishing of the old Aud where they want BPS to build.....I REALLY WISH CABELA'S would out flank them and steal this unique location that has access to Lake Erie, the WORLDS best Smallmouth fishery.....the City of Buffalo is in Erie County which sells the most hunting/fishing license than any other county in NYS to give you an idea of how many sportsmen are in this area, not to mention we are on the Canadian border with Toronto only 90 miles away. Toronto is the LARGEST city in all of Canada.....I can't see a better location for Cabela's to locate a store.......the closest Cabela's to this area is Hamburg, PA and that about a 5 hour drive from here...

To my knowledge no other outdoor store sits right on Lake Erie where you could test drive a new bass or walleye boat and have a good change to catch 10lb walleyes or limit of 4-6 lb smallies. Lake Ontario is only 45 minutes away and we have great whitetail deer hunting within 30 to 90 minutes from the city in just about any direction.......I could go on and on but you get the idea.

THINK ABOUT Cabela's.....how can you go wrong ! ! !

BPS has been offered over 62 million dollars from the state and city and still NOTHING.

We're still waiting for a Cabelas store anywhere closer than double digit hours of travel down here in the southeast. Surely there are enough hunters and fishermen down this way to justify one. I'd think a location could easily be found that would blow BPS out of the water, as they've hit a lot of the major cities around the GA/AL/MS/TN area. Drop a Cabelas within a couple or three hours of Atlanta/Birmingham/Nashville, and you could easily draw a crowd. I've said it before, but Huntsville, AL is a great spot for one, and fairly retail friendly, I think. I'll help broker the deal pro bono!

Billy Bob -

I agree with everything you said about a store in Western NY area with lake Erie, and all the inland lakes and streams in Western NY and North Western PA for fishing, not to mention the hunting in Western NY and North central and North Western Pa being so close. And there are an amazing amount of people in this area that are fishermen, hunters, and all other outdoor activities. I lament missing a store to browse frequently. We recently came back after spending some time in North Texas. The oxymororn is when I lived in Texas I had a Cabela's 20 minutes in one direction and a BPS 20 minutes in the other direction and there are exponential more outdoor opportunities in Western NY and NW PA than in Texas yet the closest Cabelas is 3+ hours to Wheeling and 3+ hours to Dundee MI and I hear the Wheeling store is not as large as a lot of them. BUT the N Texas stores had the huge metroplex population centers and it is all about numbers. Nearly everyone locally does something related to the outdoors. Fish, hunt, ski, snow mobile, hike, lots of boating but when the summer population leaves there isn't much money to spend either, as larger metro area and what money there is of it the State of NY is trying to suck the blood out of anything that is left.

I'm not so sure if I were Cabela's that I'd be too interested in doing business in NY anyway. Maybe they'ed rather sit back and see BPS lose their shirt. NY politically is a disaster area currently and the elected officials are a bunch idiots and of loose cannons just looking for anyone and anything to raise a tax or add a tax or fee too to feed their out of control glutinous bureaucracy appetite . See your hunting and fishing lic fees for 2010. Notice there are NO Cabela's in the state of NY, they probably have planned it that way. Plus my observation is that the big Cabela's like a semi-rural interstate exit with cheaper property to develop their huge complex with the huge store and acres of parking and ponds. Then let the development come to them and build around them in the form of motels and restaurants.

As for the BPS in Buffalo, I'm not so sure that downtown location is the best idea other than as you said the incentives they are being offered. I like those stores that are easy to get to off an interstate and I wouldn't make as many trips to the Buffalo store as I would if it was right off the interstate. (if it ever comes anyway)

Plus another benefit for Cabela's NOT being in NY. I just placed an order recently and realized that since they don't do any business in NY then there are is no sales tax on catalog and internet orders. If they had one store in NY then they would have to charge sales tax on all orders for doing business in NY. And in NY, as you know, sales tax is a big chunk of change these days. 7+%

Cabela's would actually be better off building a store on one of the last rural PA exits EAST of Erie PA off of I90 in PA right before the NY line. there is a better business climate, and the customers would be better off because PA sales tax is only 6% and there is no as in zero seles tax on clothing of which we get a fair amount from Cabela's. And they could still draw from Western NY and Canada with the easy access off I-90. Erie PA malls are a destination for Canadians because of the lower sales tax and no sales tax on clothes. There is a dinky Gander Mt in Erie and I mean dinky, compared to Cabela's and BPS and to some of the new Ganders that I've seen being built through the South which look quite large.

but alas, they don't listen to us anyway. lol So internet shopping it is. But I do miss just running over to a store to browse.

And the instore pick-up program is a terrific program. Order something from on-line that perhaps is not in stock in a store, go pick it up with no shipping fee and if you don't like it, return it right there and not have to mail it back.

Yeah, and like I said, they're doing the same thing in Memphis. Heck, the city has pretty much given them a riverfront event center known as The Pyramid (it's been used to host events in the past ranging from SEC basketball tourneys to you name it), and for some reason BPS cannot get it done.

I'll send you a PM and tell you what I think is their real problem
