Any good 6.5x55 and 7mm mauser loadings?
I typically don't ask for load suggestions mainly because for most calibers I have stockpiles of components and recipes that work. The 6.5 and 7mm are both relatively new to my collection and I have yet to load for them. Beggers can't be choosers, I understand, and I'll gratefully take any suggestions, but if anybody has some good recipes using 4895, that'd be all the better. Deer sized game loads and paper punching loads would be great. I may need to rely on some of the old school reloaders for this one, but how about some loads with cast bullets? Thanks in advance, guys!

I can't help you with the 7mm but for 6.5x55 I like Varget or Reloaer 15. Consult any of the loading manuals out there cuz the recipes are fairly simple when the cartridge is as easy to load for as the 6.5.

Re: Any good 6.5x55 and 7mm mauser loadings?
I was going to go with the manual if there were no suggestions. I am relatively ignorant though for non 30 cal bullets. I know 150, 165, 180, 190, etc but am a little in the dark for good performing hunting bullets in other calibers. Not knowing any different and liking Nosler, I'd be inclined to go 140g partition for the 6.5 and 150 or 160g partition for the 7mm. I suppose I need to bone up on ballistic coefficients and sectional densities so I don't feel like such a deer caught in the headlights when those subjects come up!

Re: Any good 6.5x55 and 7mm mauser loadings?
The only load that I used for my 6.5x55 was with 120 gr Nosler Partitions. I used IMR4350 for the load for the 6.5x55. I don't know what 7mm you are talking about. The only one that I have loaded for for 45 years is the 7mm Rem Mag. However, I mostly use the 150 Nosler Ballistic Silvertips or 160 gr Partitions for this caliber with either IMR4350 or IMR 7828 respectively. My loads are maximum but I can tell you what they are if you are interested. I also have been loading for the .280 Remington, 140 gr Ballistic Silvertip and Partitions and use IMR 4350 for it.
I use Partitions for hunting and Ballistic Silvertips for grouping and general shooting. I tend to stick with one bullet weight per rifle because of simplicity and having other calibers in other rifles for other hunting situations all the way from .243 to .340 Weatherby Mag.

Sorry OT3, had it in the title, but I was refering to the 7mm mauser (7x57). Thanks for the data on the 6.5. I took a look and I do have about a pound and a half of 4350. Any reason you go with the 120 over the 140 for the 6.5?

Higer velocity and better long range ballistics for drop and accuracy. The 120 6.5 bullet seems to be the best all around loading for that caliber. I always used it and now my sone has my CZ550 but he uses the 120 grain also.

Re: Any good 6.5x55 and 7mm mauser loadings?
For deer the 120 is a good one. 120 grains, 48 grains of H4350 2900 fps+ Brush load, 160 grainer with H1000, i think 50 grains. Work up from 48. the 140, backed by 50 grains of RE19, a real stomper max load. Fast, but not as accurate as some might like.

Well, thank you for the suggestions so far, gentlemen. I'll be giving the 4350/120 combo try!

I have loaded 140gr NP's and Hot-Cors in my Ruger 6.5x55 under 47grs. of RL-22 and both shoot great. I tried 48grs. and accuracy was not to my standards.
