Default First Deer: Work Hard?

Met a 16 year old on Saturday who had just killed his first deer that morning. His mother and father were both very proud. (Mom and Dad do not hunt.) It seems that this kid got his Hunter Education Card and then set about getting his first bow. He practiced, practiced and practiced. He also did a lot of reading on the web - including here on Cabela's (if you read this let me know). He bought some good clothing and cover scents. Found a good place to hunt. Went hunting every weekend he could. (Deer opener was Sept. 15 in this part of Indiana). Nothing to shoot. He was a little upset that he had to go to the Fort Wayne Dog Show on Saturday with the family but . . . While eating breakfast Saturday morning he looked out the window and five deer walked into his backyard. He grabbed his bow, knocked an arrow and let it fly. One dead button buck!!! He shot it while wearing gray sweat pants and no shoes or shirt!!!

Thumbs up Re: First Deer: Work Hard?

I would not want to go to a dog show either! Good going kid. If you have any problems or have any questions on processing and preparing that deer be sure to get on board and ask away. You'll get 100 answers to questions you never ask............................chs

That's a good excuse to not go to the dog show. Pretty cool story too. My first deer I got with my bow I was walking down a path and just saw a little doe eating in the timber and shot her at 20 yards. Weirdest thing ever. Last year during gun season we sitting in the truck a little before lunch trying to blow time before we went to lunch and saw a doe walking across the field at about 15 yards. I slid my gun out of its case put a few shells in it and opened the door. She ran after that and I didn't get her.
