Small caliber/big game

I've been looking for info on the .258 caliber round. Does anyone make this gun anymore? If so, which do you recommend?

I'm not aware of any .258 cartridges in production today. However, there are .257 caliber cartridges that will occassionally use .258 caliber bullets. For example, some of the old .25 caliber handgun rounds, sometimes used on rifles.

You may want to be more specific on what cartridge you are looking for. For example, are you looking at a high-power rifle cartridge, a pistol cartridge, a blackpowder cartridge, or whatever.

If its a .257, there are a bunch of different rifle cartridges available and being made today.

This might also be the .256 depending on where you are writing from. Didn't W.D.M. Bell (of African fame) use a .256 on occasion which I think in the end was actually a 6.5 mm, likely 6.5 X 54. Not aware of a .258 in a rifle though. Now .358, that's something else.

Marlin Made A 256 Win Mag Model 62 In The 60's, I Received One From My Grandfather When He Passed Away. Its A Great Little Lever Action Rifle. Kinda Of Expensive To Shoot Though. It Shoots 65 Grain Bullets Usally In Hollow Points. Its About 60-80 Dollars A Box Of Shells If You Buy Them.

Thanks for all the replies. After a little research, I found I was mistaken about the caliber, I was looking for the .257, specifically the Ferguson .257 Hot Tamale. I found the info in Gunhunter Magazine, October 2005. For those interested, the article is "Battlin' Bullets", and compares small caliber to large caliber for big game hunting. It is a very informative article. Thanks again.

The .257 Hot Tamale has amazing ballistics. A 7mm STW has great ballistics, but when the case is necked down to .257 it shoots even flatter. If I could have a custom rifle that would probably be my caliber.
