I've bowhunted for years but just getting back into it after a debilitating knee injury. I've always shots 4 and 5 inch vanes and have done fairy well with sub 2" groups from 30 - 50 yds. The other night I was watching some bowhunting show and the hunter was using some carbon shafts with this eeeenie weeenie small vanes. What is the advantage or disadvantage with these smaller vanes? Will this vane configuration worked with aluminum shafts? Thanks in advance.

He was probably using blazer vanes, http://www.bohning.com/archery/1300.xml#article-1301.
They work well with broadheads, they are stiffer material to help guide the arrow. They work in whisker biscuit rests and will work on aluminum.
