Ok I've been using Crossbow for few years.I'm only using one Pin,been very happy with it set at 20 Yards.Find most my shots on Deer within 10-30 Yard range.

But today I got to thinking move my Pin to 30 Yards stretch it on out to 40 yards.

What are your thoughts on this?I know some would say I would be better with more Pins, but I figure one I'm not wasting time figuring which one to use and the Bow shoots flat enough to still put it in the kill zone.

I wouldnt add extra pin clutter. I don't know the trajectory of your crossbow, but I would think it would be more than capable of shooting out to 40 yards.

Well for every 10 yards I would say a 5 inch drop.I'm fairly good at judging distance and surely I can Judge Close and Far.

I have to play Devil's advocate here. People have this misconception that a crossbow has an incredible advantage in speed and power over a bow. Truth is, most crossbows don't shoot any faster than a modern compound. In terms of energy, they're even worse due to a shorter/lighter arrow (bolt), and a shorter power stroke. IMHO, the average guy doesn't practice enough or shoot well enough to take a 40 yd shot with a bow. I wouldn't recommend it for a crossbow either, especially when your sighting system is one pin and a lot of Kentucky Windage.

Yes like I say I've use Crossbow for a few years and know this. And know not to take a shot I wouldn't take with a Vertical Bow.Sat many times with Deer out 40 yards that I let walk because I figured they weren't close enough.

I shoot a crossbow as well (excalibur)......been hunting with it for many years, most of my shots are under 20 yds....I have taken a deer as close as 2 yds and as far as 35yds.....40 yds with pratice is possible...I just don't know how you can do it with one pin, but that is me, if you know your limitations and the bows limitations you should be fine...Practice, makes a better shooter...

The problem won't be as much hitting the target as having the deer still be in place when the bolt arrives.

Crossbows are less efficient than vertical bows, thus they create a ton of noise. Beyond 30-35 yards, the deer are very likely to get spooked and cause a complete miss or, worse yet, a marginal or non-fatal hit.

Yea I've thought of this too.Plus I'm thinking most misjudge distance by the Deer being closer than they think.I know the first Deer I shot with this Bow was at 30 yards,he dropped down just as I shot, got him in the Spine.Had my Pin set at 30 yards.

My hunting is done from the ground,my kills have been from 5-30 yards.I've only killed 9 Deer with it.
