I have an exhaust leak at the back of my motor. The muffler shop said it's not the exhaust. Has anybody ever heard of this?

You could have a cracked exhaust manifold, a leaky gasket, or any number of things. What motor do you have?

some ford V-8 engines have an emission pipe that runs across the back of the engine .just below the valve covers. it goes from one head to the other , with an up pipe in the middle . it hooks into the A.I.R. system . (air pump , smog pump ) these pipes will rust through . fairly simple to change . one bolt in each side , 1/2 inch wrench if I remember right. the up pipe has a one way check valve on it . it's best to replace it too , they are usually rusted on . hope this helps Jim

these pipes are about 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch diameter . some have a pipe for the E G R valve too . it is another emission item .

Thanks Jim for the help. I did a search and found the same info you're talking about. Seems like it's kinda common.

Looks like I'll be working on it this Sunday! Thanks Again!

if I remember right there are little round tube paper gaskets that seal the pipe into the head . be sure to get these too or it will still leak . I'm betting the parts will need to be purchased from Ford . glad I could help . Jim
