Cheap .22 lr

I need a cheap .22 lr for trapping. I know there are a lot of good .22 lr out there but i just need one that will do the job. The 10/22 is the first that comes to mind but are there any others under $200 that are decent.

For trapping I would look for a single shot from some place that sells used guns. For $50-$100 one should find a reliable one. In fact, I would look for one that was kind of beat up in the $50 or less range as lugging one around on a trap line is pretty hard on the exterior and accuracy is not a great concern as ranges are very short. A 22 revolver is the classic trapline gun but there may be some concerns depending on your age. A good, stout club (disguised as a walking stick) is also a classic tool and very cheap to use plus good for many other uses. I used one regularly when checking traps out of the public view, many accept trapping as a "necessary evil" and find it much less objectionable to have the animal shot rather than bludgeoned.

I'm 14..So i wouldnt buy the gun anyway. But my mom doesn't want me to use a stick (lucky for me i get a new gun). And cost of ammo is not a problem. But a revolver sounds goods too. So does anyone know of any kind of 22 that is cheap like under $150.

As I said, any 22 will work for use on a trapline, find the cheapest you can as it will get beat up. Brand is not important as much as cost as the gun will be subject to numerous dings, bumps, and dunkings while running a line. Any revolver will cost more than any rifle with a reliable handgun costing significantly more. There may also be some age or other legal requirements to carry a handgun by a minor, a check with the authorities would be a good idea.

well for what your useing it for a marlin 60 is the best and cheap 100 bucks at walmart or bass pro or a mossberg 702 for 90 dollars and a savage 22 semi auto for 125 dollars or go to a flea market those allways have a 22 for 50 bucks

I would have to agree with Rossi a single shot Rossi would be handy, you can get one with a .410 barrel for about 120 or 130. The gun is a youth model and I got one and it is small so which should make it handier, I can handle it fine and im 6'2" with monkey arms. Than the .410 barrel would be nice for riding around and if you see a grouse and it's just sitting there waiting to be shot. But to answer your question and than some take a look at the Rossi and you get two guns in one.

Citori gave you some very good advice. Yes you will be carrying it to check a trapline. Follow his advice .

An Ithaca M49 (single shot) or M49R (repeater) woudl also be a lightweight little packing rifle that can be had for easily $75-$150. Dad has one in .22 mag that he used to carry on his tractor for groundhogs.

You need a short and light wieght gun to carry with a sling if you can't attach it to your backpack.
You do not need a semiauto but my find them like the rugger 10/22 cheap and eazy to find in a used gun. Also if you where to scope it their mounting system is very strong (one piece base and weaver rings).
I am thinking that open sight would be best but bushnell/simmons make good cheap scope for 22lr's.

The sub-sonic HP's may prove to be good ammo since your shooting up close. And since your young be very careful and get very familuar with which gun you get. There is no need to carry it with a shell in the chamber either if your not hunting small game at the same time. Safe gun handling habits will see you through a life time.

I would use a pistol. The Ruger 22/45 is a nice one to go with.... I had one and it is a good shooter.
