Will a std. 3" chambered 1187 slug barrel (either fully rifled or smooth bore) fit / function on an 1187 3.5 " supermag receiver?

I can tell you, I have an 870 super-mag. It came with a 3 1/2 Chamber in the smoother bore, and a 3" chamber in the rifled bore. So I would say yes.

Thx for reply. Any chance you know whether your 3" 870 super mag slug barrel fits / works with a non super mag 870?

My buddy has a regular 870, I will see if my barrels fit his gun or not. I'm pretty sure they will. As long as you don't try to chamber a 3.5" load into the 3" barrel, it should be OK. The Super Mag reciever has a longer, and probably more stout, action, and can handle all ammo lengths. I don't see why they would make completely different barrels for two similar guns. That being said, you really should be asking this question to www.remington.com. I'm sure they could tell you without question.

I wouldn't suggest using a 3" barrel in a 3 1/2" gun unless you are certain the two will interchange. Trying to use a barrel that was not intended for the gun could be disasterous! Call a gunsmith or call Remington.

If you have an 11-87 super mag, you need a special slug barrel for it. YOU CAN NOT use a standard 3" barrel on an 11-87 super mag receiver. Remington makes a special slug barrel for the 11-87 super mag. I have the 11-87 super mag and the special slug barrel for it. It is expensive. It ran me $269.00. Cabelas can get it for you through their special order program, but when I called, the price was over $300. Hope that helps.

Question
Can I use regular barrels on my 1187 Supermag?
Answer
Standard 2 3/4" and 3" barrels can not be used on the 1187 Supermag. Only barrels designed specifically for the 1187 Supermag can be used.
In addition, you cannot put an 1187 Supermag barrel on a standard receiver.
