Mine is usually leeches, or minnows. What's everyone else's "go-to" live bait for 'eyes?

regular leeches on a slip bobber, anchored off reefs or ledges. I hate trolling for them. It gets boring to me. Never saw a need to purchase the "jumbo" leeches and pay the extra money.

I fish Mille Lacs and my favorite is the biggest black leeches you can get while drifting or cork fishing over rocks..

Night crawlers on the Ol' Lindy Rig.

Monster crawler on a spinner rig. For the finesse bite, 1/2 crawler on 1 hook, 1 float lindy rig. Interestingly enough, gulp crawlers on these setups catch just as many fish. Also are more durable, can catch 5-10 fish before needing to mess with bait.

It depends. For cool water periods i prefer minnows. When the summer hits and im chasing fish along weedlines, structure or deep basins its tough to beat a crawler or leach on a spinner rig behind a BB or an Inline weight.

During the period from mid May through mid June I typically fish spillways in Kansas for walleyes using 2-4" bluegill or green perch. I accidently stumbled apon this while fishing for cats. I use a .5-2 oz weight tied to the bottom of the terminal line and add a dropper 12-18" above. The hits are usually just a small downward pull, and if you don't set the hook, sometimes the fish will release the bait, sometimes swallow it. I believe the appetite is fierce during this time after the spawn, and before the lakes heat up for drift fishing. I have only caught one walleye during any other time of the year on the same bait. You also get the added bonus of the occasional channel, blue and even a large flathead.
First time I used this a buddy and I limited out at Clinton res. June 2nd, 2000 . No one else was catching any and it was pissing quite a few folks off. The fish that day ran from 3 lbs to 10 3/4 lbs.
Good luck Ks.

Crawlers on a harness with snap weights for me on Saginaw Bay. Mini-dipsies will surprise you though.

For yellow perch, you cannot go wrong with a minnow of any kind. Where I fish out of Lake Michigan shiners or small alewives and shad are always a sure bet.
For walleyes I like to use nightcrawlers on a harness.

I use fatheads in spring, crawlers in summer, then sucker minnows through fall and winter. I like sucker minnows the best they are tough and the eyes really seem to love em.

I don't fish for walleye (none in my state that I know of), but I do fish for Perch and Bass and other than the obvious worm/night crawler, I have very good luck with shiners. Especally ice fishing. I have this one pond I ice fish at and normally catch a 3-5 lb bass on 90% of my flags and 2-3 lbs perch on the other 10%. it also is not uncommon for me to catch 15-20 at that size in a day at this pond.
