I have added yet another rifle to my list of possibilities - the Traditions Pursuit LT. They have a (West) version that meets WA regs I am told. What are your experiences with this muzzleloader?

What are the WA rules? The LT is a closed breach, 209 only muzzle loader.
Earlier models had some issues with the frame, but they have updated them since. I prefer the XLT.

They have a new model Pursuit LT West that uses #11 cap and is suppose to meet WA regs. They are emailing me a letter from Game Dept. Customer Service person said they sent a rifle to WA for review and will email letter - I will check back if it is BS. The cap would need to have some degree of exposure to meet WA regs as I read them.

"The break-open action also provides you with a super tight seal allowing a positive primer ignition even in foul weather."
That was taken from their advertisment. The primer is not exposed! It has a closed breech. I wonder why they say it's legal in the west?

The UPS driver delivered my Knight Big Horn today. It's SS with thumbhole stock. I put a williams peep sight on it and put the musket nipple in it. I will sight it in tomorrow and send it to my son out in Washington. I am flying out there in a few weeks to visit friends and plan a hunt.

wecoyote - are you elk hunting or deer hunting in wa and do you plan eastern or western? I don't know what the modification are on the west model - the manual only shows standard with 209. I am looking at muzzleloading deer here for the first time. Just getting back into deer again.

I have been bow hunting elk the last few years above Ellensburg in the Nanum area.
I want to do an Easten Washington hunt for muleys but all my old high school friends have been hunting western washington for almost 40 years. They take a large fishing boat and live on board. They take skiffs to shore on an island that is loaded with blacktail.
Here in Middle Tennessee the limit is 2 bucks per year and 3 does per day. Plus you can hunt each season (archery, muzzleloader, modern) and don't have to choose weapons like in Waashington.

In this mornings emails was an email from Traditions with copies of letters from Washington, Oregon and Idaho Game Departments confirming that the West version of the Pursuit LT meets regs. I made inquiries at 2 other manufacturers and got answers that they do not verify compliance and it was up to the purchaser to determine. I don't know how good the gun is yet, but I am impressed that they would meet with game departments to assure acceptance.

Update 4 on the Pursuit LT West. According to the letter from the Oregon Game Dept they have provided a opening directly above the percussion cap nipple as the meens to meet the regs of "open to the elements".

I sighted in my Knight Big Horn. I put 3 shots in a 2" Bullseye at 50 Yards with open sights on my second attempt. That's as good as my 57 year old eyes will let me shoot. I went with a peep sight so I only have to focus on the front sight and target instead of the really blurry rear site.
The 26" barrel is very tight and the Cabelas Dead Center Lead bullets won't go in very east on a second shot without running a patch down the barrel. I'm affraid I will deform the bullet if I push too hard. I might try a different sabot then the ones that came with them.
I'm glad your gun meets the regulations. I could drill a hole in my omega and malke it exposed...lol. Just kidding, I love my omega the way it is.

I haven't bought one yet, waiting for a little more feed back here on the Traditions first. I had a peep site on my first elk hunting rifle and like them so will probably look at going that route. I am looking forward to working up some good rounds here when I get mine - considering the Big Horn yet but the idea of being able to use a break-open interests me. And don't let anyone tell you that your old as I am 59.

I would ask about accuracy. I had an in-line Traditions and sold it because I couldn't find a load it would shoot. I tried almost every bullet and powder combination. I thought I would need shoulder surgery after that 3 weeks.
