Does anyone here have a dodge vehicle with the 4.7L V8? I have noticed in the oil fill tube some slimy looking stuff kind of looks like vasaline. I am not sure if I have a cracked block, head, or blown head gasket. Nothing shows up in the oil, radiator, or on the dipstick. I have read on the internet that this is common in the dodge 4.7L engine and that it is just moisture that builds in the tube and emulsifies with any oil in the fill tube. I am starting to worry and thinking about trading it in before it gets bad.

Do you drive short distances a lot? In the winter especially, moisture will accumulate in the crankcase if you don't drive long enough to evaporate it out. I've read that it takes 30 minutes at operating temperature to burn the moisture out of the oil. Sometimes, that's hard to do. That's probably why engines with a lot of highway miles are usually in better shape than a similar engine driven in town all the time.
Also, check your PCV valve and make sure you have proper crankcase ventilation.

I would say your ok . just like you guys have said , I would agree it's ,condensation . in colder weather the engine heat will go up into the tube , the tube is sticking out away from the engine . the inside of the tube is warm , the outside of the tube is cold . moisture forms on the warm side . moisture and oil makes a ugly looking mess, reminds me of pancake batter . if you would have a crack or gasket problem you would be adding antifreeze , so if your not adding antifreeze to it , it should be ok. if you are adding antifreeze , back to plan "A" . Jim
this is common on all engines with a fill tube , not just your 4.7 dodge.
