Drive a Suzuki King quad before you buy. You will be happy you did!

As far as safety goes, I will say this.

I consider myself an expert rider. I have ridden in competition before and have many many years f experience under my belt.

I don't care what you do, where you ride, your level of experience, anything... WEAR A HELMET!!!!![B[/B]

I have had my life saved in three serious accidents because I wore a helmet, and one of those was a slow-speed accident while I was in my yard.

ANy helmet is good, but I suggest getting the best you can afford. DOT and SNELL approved are a minimum. And if you bang it up in an accident, buy a new one.

Next is eye protection, gloves and proper footwear. Also wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt if you can.

But you'd be an idiot not to wear a helmet.

I own the 700 Grizz with EPS. I have ridden most of the bigger quads. Its a very well balanced machine and does a great job of crawling over rocks. The power steering is great in the rocks. On the downside it can be hard to start below 10 degrees. But it will start. It also lacks a pull start. I carry a jumpack when hitting the backcountry. I bought mine used with 110 miles on it and saved 2 gs over a new one. The warranty is transferable. This is a well built machine that Im happy I bought.

The Can-Am Outlander is definitely one of the big dogs on the market. However, you may struggle to stay under $9K. However, if you ride it, you will yearn for one.

In general, all of the big bores are good machines. The new Brute Force 750 is now fuel injected and has about as much power as anyone needs. If wheelying is your cup of tea for ranking a ute quad, the Brute will flip you.

The Suzuki 700 and 750 is a good machine. Kind of like a Honda in that it is really reliable, but not a gorilla in anything. Nice ride, reliable, and good power. But, other quads will out perform it.

The Grizz is a good ride. Its pretty well proven and rides really well.

If I was going to look at a new ATV, I'd get out and ride as many as you can so you can see how well they match up with what you like. Many will have a sound that you may or may not like. Others will have a ride to them that is different than others. Some will have a soft suspension, some will be pretty tight. I'd also assess whether or not you want an IRS or a straight axle. The ride is majorly different and they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I've got a 660 Grizzly. I've had a high mountain clutch pack put in it, rejeted, ITP mudlites for tires. This is a work horse. I'm a big guy and this thing will almost get the front tires off the ground in 2 wd. It has 40 h.p. and goes 55mph. I have a 60 inch Warn plow with a 2000 # winch. It's all you need if you want a big un".

I got a kick out of your post. In comparison, I just sold my Brute Force 650. It had no pipe, no clutch pack, nor was it re-jetted. It had ITP Mudlite XLs and ITP Series 3 Type 7 Wheels. I'm a pretty big guy myself at about 6'6" and 300 lbs. This thing was a Brute. It could get the front wheels off the ground with no problem in both 2WD as well as 4WD. I don't know how many horses it had, but it would topout (Rev Limiter) at 68 mph. That limit in speed was the same if it was me driving alone, or if I was carrying 150 lbs of stuff. I had it equipped with a Warn 2.5 winch and a snow blade. I loved it!

However, I sold it! Now I have a brand new KFX 700. I found I like to play with the atv much more than work with it. The KFX is a HOOT!

I have a 05 grizzly 660 great machine relaible, powerful the only thing I have a problem with is stopping. The brakes work fine but it will slide in a straight line. More than likely its the stoke tires that is the problem.

Geeze Todd , they are all fun no matter what huh !!!!

Without a doubt!!!

There are so many great machines out there and all of them are a blast to ride. I just decided to quit kidding myself about "needing" to have one and decided I'd get one for NO good reason other than fun. Of course, being in Nebraska, its not like I need one to get to the back country....

BTW - I think the power steering option is going to really open up a lot of people to larger machines that drive like smaller machines. Now, if gas would just go down and the weather would get nice, I'd be happy as the dickens!

Sport class ATVs are a lot of fun and can still be used for "outdoor" activities.

I used to take my Yamaha Banshee to steelhead camp each spring. When we'd leave the camp to go down to the river, I'd beat everyone there without even trying.

my brother has a honde forman es 450 and its got pletty of power. We were dragging logs out of the woods got ripping on them reel hard and torn the hitch off. It's no good for yard work because the rear end in it is amazing. Lock in the 4 dig and there is almost no chance of turning on pavement. This machine is definantly a work horse.

Actually,.. what's your intended use for the quad ?

The answer you give to that question will steer you in the right direction. I own a Polaris 500 Sportsman 4X4, and the main intended use for it is for getting around for hunting. It also serves as a work horse here on my farm. I plow snow with it, cultivate food plots, haul a utility trailer loaded with farm equipment, etc.

I personally wasn't looking for a speed machine, just something with enough power and stability to do the things I had intended for it to do. The 500 4X4 was perfect, it does everything I ask of it, with plenty of power to spare.

Sure I could have gotten a 700 or 800 machine but WHY,.. ?

I have a Polaris Sportsman 500 and love it. I can't imagine needing a 700 or 800cc machine cuz this 500 rocks! I got the Browning hunter package so I had rifle scabbard, back rack, thumb warmer, hand warmers, winch, and portable GPS from the getgo. I added a front rack and an ice auger holder and there's nothing this machine can't do. (Except go 80 mph, which you don't need to do anyway.)

08 honda rubicon you get an automatic and a manuel shift all in one bike with out that **** belt but the most important part its a HONDA it will only run about 55 but its reliable you have low range and still have 5 gears and you have drive with 5 gears or just put it in auto and DRIVE an hit the gas very very versatile bike

Rampyahama5;

I belabored this same question a few years back and ultimately settled on a Yamaha Kodiak 450. The larger ATV’s are nice, but bigger isn’t always better. I use my ATV around the yard and have taken many daylong trail rides. The bigger, fancier rigs are nice, but does your “realistic” usage warrant spending the extra money. Additionally, when maneuvering through the woods off the trail it felt too big.

Finally, I realized I made the correct decision later that fall when I hauling my deer from the woods. I came across my neighbor dragging out a large doe. I threw his deer on the rear rack and he hopped on as well. Two hunters, two deer, in about five inches of snow and my 450 wasn’t even in four wheel.

If you plan to do a lot of long rides then the big boys are your best choice. However, if your like most riders a mid-range ATV will be more than sufficient and save you a bunch of money.

I just sold my 2002 660 Grizzly. I bought a new 2008 Can-Am 650 XT EFI and my wife got a 2009 Can-Am 400 XT EFI. The ride is GREAT !!!!! Starts right up. Puts my old grizzly to shame.

I like the smaller ATVs. They are much easier to move around if you have to, they go up much narrower trails, they have enough power(Honda rancher 350 4x4). And you can fit them in your truck bed! Seriously though I like the 5 speed auto clutch better than all of the put it in drive and go machines. It just seems more reliable to me. I wish they would do that on like a 450.
