Anyone tried the hornady 265gr .429 bullet with sabots yet? I'd guess 1700-1900fps should be obtainable what ya think for deer?

tjen, Talk to one of the Hornady tech reps. A few months back, I talked with one about various .429 and .452 bullets for muzzleloading. According to my #7 Hornady reloading manual, the 265 was developed for the .444 Marlin for medium to large game. It might be too tough for deer at muzzleloader velocities. I'm planning to use the .452 250 XTP in my Omega this year.

Give Hornady a call at 1 800 338 3220.

Hornady's 265FP should be a fine bullet for muzzleloader use...I would probably use a pistol bullet myself, unless you are using mag charges where the more heavily built 444 bullet will likely shine more.

I hve usd the 240 grain XTP in my knight for years and took several deer with them,I would think the 265 will do fine.

In the hornady manual it says this is the best bullet to use in rifle for the 44 rem mag. This should hit between 1800-2000fps depending on the load. The 444marlin hit 2000-2200fps so it should work. I thought a box of bullets and the right sabots would be a less expensive way to go.

Just wanted to see if anyone has used them in a ML or 44mag rifle.

The 240gr work very well I see no reason the 265 shouldnt also be deer stompers. My buddy shot a HUGE mulie this year 200 1/8 net 205 gross this last season in nebraska. It had a massive body as well. well over 240 dressed.
