Hi, I hunt deer and bear in Pa and am having a little trouble deciding on which bullet to use. Alot of my shots are 10 yards or less, especially deer, but I also hunt some powerlines where I can shoot 2-300 yards. Would a ballistic tip bullet perform at the close ranges? They are my current first choice. I really liked the looks of the tipped TSX but haven't found much information about it. Also the Winchester XP3 bullet looked good but same problem. I shoot a 7mm rem mag. if that makes any difference. I would like to hunt some bigger game too but that won't be for a few years. Thanks, Jim

Go with the tipped TSX it will handle those close shots much better.

Would a 140 grain tipped TSX be big enough for a black bear? Cabelas sells the tipped TSX in 120 and 140 gr. for 7mm. I think it would be enough but I have never reloaded before, my father in law is doing it for me. Thanks

The 140gr. TSX would work fine for your needs. I've never used the tiped bullet but I think it's the same as the regular TSX but with the polymer tip.

From what I've read it is exactly the same except for the tip. The tip is also suppose to help initiate expansion which has been a problem for a small number of people.

Nosler Accubond or Partition would work great.
