I bought my cablea's FT 9wt in '99 and ended up using it as a back up to my Cabela's bought Loomis 9wt Nautikos. I'm needing a 7 or 8 wt rod for bows on the upper kenai, in AK where lot's of rainbow and dollys can tip the 10 lb + mark. I'll mostly be casting leeches, streamers and imitation mouses, & beads.
Also i might have some drag in the sink tip lines I'll be using so sensitivity is important. Money is tight and I'll be placing an order for about $200 Bucks worth of tying material around the 1st. Right! save my money. I read the field report on a few of the rods but without actually testing them it's a tough call. I don't want a 11 lb rainbow taxing my rod but if a 7 wt would be well strong enough maybe it might be a bit more fun, but I'm not wanting to play around with these beautiful trophy fish. I want to be able to have fun sure, but getting them released as soon as possible is for the better health of the fish.
either 7 or 8 weight on this strong glacial river. I've always stuck with fast action but I can also consider the moderate action of the SLI. Other rivers around are basically creeks for steelhead but only catch n release is allowed. now for the question? I'll be using a sinking tip mostly or a floating line and split shot. I need the best sensitivity at or under the sli price, and again, I'm only considering the sli lst or xst. I'm sure any of the 160 to 180.00 cabela's rods will be just fine. I have all the confidence in these rods, just wondering what might be more sensitive. Also, anyone try the Jim Teeny TFO rods yet?
