NOT TRUE check link, heck they are still making new rifles in 7mm WSM who would have thought that? I own a 7mm wsm and was worried they would go the way of the dinosaur.

According to the Browning website they are producing new xbolts in wsm calibers.

Here is the link:

I just spoke with the manager at sportsman's wharehouse. I had to ask him twice. Maybey I should have made a call to Browning first. I don't understand why he would of lied. Maybey I misunderstood and he ment only one model of rifle. I asked to look at a Browning Bar in 300WSM and he said Browning was not making the WSM in 300 any longer.

I'm a bolt action guy but Browning has the BARs in 300wsm and 270 and 7mm wsm still listed on their website. Good luck.

I have been in there and almost had lead the person behind the counter to the gun I want to look at. Of course that what happens when they pay minium wage.

I have not heard of the 300 WSM being discontinued, but this I do know: ALL the WSMs were patented by writer Rick Jamison. He is now demanding royalties from all manufacturers of WSM caliber rifles. Many custom rifle makers will no longer manufacture rifles in any WSM caliber. Many have said it will be the demise of the WSM cartridges. The patent is fact. The demise is speculation.

I think some of the WSM will be gone befoe to long. The current market wont allow for sales dogs to be carried by the others. The 300 and 270 wsm will propably stay the others will fade. The gun market used the wsm's to spark a big sales boom they shold have to pay the patent holder. They sold us a product that doesnt really offer anything substantial. The shorts can keep up with the standard round even pass (270wsm) but its not more than an inch trajectory difference at 400 yrds. Same weight bullets traveling 100 fps faster dont add a lot to a rifles utility. If a 270 is not enough for an elk hunt for you a 270 WSM isnt either. I guess the short action atraction just isnt there for me. The stiffer action and the short powder colum increase in accuracy will not effect a hunting rifle. benchrest shooters it would help. Cabelas in Sidney had a HUGE selection of used Short Mags. I dont know why but a lot are coming back. I would stick to the tried and true.

Also the 270wsm has 5.6" less drop att 400yds. with a150gr. bullet.

Just wondering how > 300 fps faster when the 2 boxes I'm holding the federal 270 win at 3000 and a federal 270 wsm 3150 both in 150gr. Starting is only 150 different. That truely is a mystery. With a 100yrd sight in its close to 4 in at 400rds. I stand corrected. I personally would zero at 200yds closing that gap. Still not enough difference to make a difference.

I was thinking the same thing myself. I guess the thing to do is call Browning. And if it's true stock up on the brass.

My buddy bought a browning 300wsm 5 months ago. He couldnt find one with the factory muzzle break anywhere. That may be part of the misunderstanding, that they are not making the one with the muzzle break anymore.

Not trying to sound negative but I get a kick out of people alway's saying that the wsm's will go extinct soon. That's like saying high definition T.V.'s will go extinct soon. People are alway's moving to the better product so why would they disappear all of a sudden. I heard the same thing with the 450 marlin- Oh it's gonna be gone soon- don't buy it - you'll be stuck with a gun you can't shoot. Again the 450 marlin is a better performer with factory ammo than either the 45/70 or the 444 marlin - why would it disappear, Now you see them everywhere- definitely not going extinct soon. I am thinking that if the gun is easily outperformed by regular calibers then it may face exctinction, and even then the gun may have a niche market . I sure hope I am not proven wrong because I like all the wsm calibers, and I cringe when I hear people saying that the 325 wsm may go the way of the dodo bird. I want to get that one next !!!!
