Four buddies and I are planning a hunt for the 2009 season. We originally considered Montana, but the tags are too darn expensive and hard to get. We are now considering Nebraska. Does anyone know of a good outfitter that provides affordable semi-guided or self-guided hunts in Nebraska.....or other mid-west state?

Remember you are paying a guide for what he knows. Unless you have the resources to do extensive scouting, a guide is paid because he has done this scouting for you. A guide is supposed to put you into game. You are supposed to see game because of a guides services.

I'm thinking what you are asking for is a local to show you where to camp, and some land to hunt on. If this is all you want, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I live in Nebraska and have lived here my whole life....find an outfitter and run it past me. Most are pretty reputable and there are some outfitters who just own/guide land in Nebraska but are ran out of another state. The best example I know of, and who have had experience with is Table Mountain Outfitters out of Wyoming. Top-notch service every way you look at it.

Thank you for your advice, but I know what I was asking for.
Semi-guided and self-guided hunts wouldn't exist if they were such a stupid idea. I've been on a few and had very good success.

A friend of mine has a guide service and has been at it for years. He is a great guy and runs a top notch lodge. He has a great cook also :)
