What bullets do you shoot and why? I like powerbelt bullets.

T/C Shockwaves and Cheap Shots, and Hornady XTPs. They're all affordable and give me good accuracy and performance, even at the "heavy" charges I like to shoot.

Cast my own. Both for sabots i cast 214 and 255 grain SWC in 45. I also casted some 45 cal 300 grain wad cutters. Wow very nice holes on paper.

For full size i cast .50 CAL using the L.E.E R.E.A.L bullet mold. 320 grains. Makes an excellent bullet way better than sabots. As you do not have to clean up after every other round. Accuracy is very good.

I, too, "roll my own." My Cabela's .45 Hawken likes .440 patched round balls, and .45 maxiballs. Oddly enough, both are real accurate and pretty lethal on the varments. I've also had pretty good luck with 200 grain .45 R.E.A.L. bullets. For some weird reason, I haven't been able to get the 250 grain R.E.A.L.'s to fly straight and they leave a keyhole in the paper. Probably need to do some more "load development." In the 'ol .44 C&B, .451 and .454 round balls with about the same results. I've also been known to stuff a few .45 200 grain R.E.A.L.'s in the cylinder. Haven't really evaluated how they fly out of the revolver, but I did manage to hit a couple "Old Busthead" bottles at about 30 feet a while back. I won't go into some of my scary BP 12 Ga. shotshell loads........

I like conicals from Bullshop the best. Most of my shots at deer are taken at 50 yards and less so trajectory is not a concern. Plus these conicals are inexpensive and high quality. My last order was for 500 pure lead bullets, it cost me $115 which included shipping and insurance.

Powerbelts and roundballs.

Why?

My .45 sidelock will shoot powerbelts the best and they do an excellent job on the deer i have shot. Round balls are the only thing 3 of my other rifles will shoot.

I had bullet failure on my most accurte bullet in my gun. The T/C shock wave had no shock. 45 cal whole all the way though. It may be because I only run 100 gr of 777 pellets. 150 may have opened them up. The hornady xtp not as accutate by about and inch in grouping at 100 yds opened up with shock and awe. 115 yds my buddy said you could see the ripples move out from impact in the binos.

50. cal TC shockwaves 300 grain are awesome. 5 inch groups out of a Tc prohunter at 250 yards. Tried powerbelt platinums and that gun didn't like them. one of the powerbelts shot 5 feet under the target randomly when it was sighted in, I t must of had a defect. wouldnt try them again.

Good morning,
We use the same bullet, are you using 150 gr of 777 pellets? I shoot a Black Diamond m/l and it is a real shooter, 2.5" @ 200 yards, although it thumps the poop out of me!

Been using Harvester hard cast sabots the 44 cal 280gr and sst/shock waves in 300gr. The harvesters also make a 45cal 320gr sabot. These are for 50 cal ML's
