the truth for me is i have no idea..ive been told that the stainless will not rust as fast but if you take care of your barell you wont have many troubles anyway..i just bought my first muzzleloader and went with a T/C omega with a laminate stock and stainless barell..sweet rig!!

It is more a personel choice than anything, they both need care to keep them in good condition. I own both and the one thing is that if a blued barrel gets a little spot of rust on it ,you can steel wool it off and reblue the spot,as long as you catch it in time. A Stainlees gets a rust spot and it is there forever.
The stainless may resist rust a little better but it still will rust.

looks. The stainless barrels look very very good.
NOW if you are shooting something like 777. Then it may be ok. As eventually shooting black powder will have effects on the stainless steel. Stainless steel if exposed to black powder for long periods of time will pit and rust just like a regular barrel. Just not as fast. So it really depends on how you take care of your fire arm. I personally do not have any stainless guns. However i do say they look really good.

Stainless looks nice when clean, usually a good oil or gun scrubber solvent will bring it back when dirty. Many are not aware that stainless will rust like a blue barrel if not taken care of, other than that its a pretty good product. Try and stay away from the shiny barrels, go with the satin or gray colored finish to redue the shine from the barrel when hunting.

Theres nothing wrong with a blue barrel, same maintenance as the stainless as far as keeping clean, rust, etc. - biggest problem would be wearing the blue finish off. But with some of the cold blue products offered today its not a real problem to keep your gun looking good.

Go with the SS. I really have not found a con with them. They look good and don't rust. The blued barrel needs more care to prevent rust. I still use oil on my SS barrels.

Stainless will rust, ask a person that carrys one daily if they use a leather holster. Just your body heat will give off enough moisture to the leather that a light film of rust will start if not check and wiped off weekly. Lay a piece of stainless outside for a day or two then look at the bottom side - film of rust. Granted we all take better care of our guns than that mentioned but it can happen.

I work in Cabela's Gun Library in Lehi Utah and once in a while we'll see a stainless gun with stages of rust starting. Usually they have been stored for a long period without any care, then brought in to be sold with the owner surprised at the condition when the lined plastic case is opened.

I've had stainless in several variations and a blued front stuffer and there is no difference other than looks. Both require maintainence just like any gun and all of mine get equal attention.

I have never ever had a SS rust. I do take care of them just like a blued and I have had the blued surface rust at times..... I always us the SS in snow or rain. No rust !!!!!!!!
