In the, "You Call The Shots" page 54 of the NAH mag. the issue is shooting a treed tom in legal hunting hours and where it is legal to shoot treed toms, i didnt know you could anywhere, but thats how much i know." It;s 10:00 A.M., and this gobbler came running to your calls and hopped onto a limb to look for that teasing hen, BOOM!!! i called him in, no apoligies here., Or maybe i spooked him midday, he landed in a tree across the hollow and i put a long sneak on him, BOOM!!! Thats working for your bird. BUTif i somehow set up close to roosted bird at sunrise,he would be safe untill i calledhim down. Likewise w/a bird that flew up and landed on a limb near me for the evening. These aren't double-standards_the difference is earning the bird vs. lucking into him". -tom carpenter. YOUR THOUGHTS. roosted is one thing.
I would prolly try to get him out of the tree for a while. or make sure he roosted there and come back in the morning.

This is probably going to sound strange, but according to the old timers, calling a bird in during the spring breeding season was worse than stealing a horse, it was just wrong! While I don't advocate shooting birds from trees, it does take considerable skill in accomplishing that feat. I do like to set up as close as I can if possible. Here's a tip for those who like to push the envelope; When trying to sneak in close, carry a deer call, every time you step on a stick or roll a rock, hit the call lightly, it'll put the turkeys at ease. LOL!

Give the bird a sportin chance. He has two choices. He can come in on the ground lookin for the hen, or he can fly up on a limb. Either way if he comes in close enough he's dead. He had a chance, and he made up his mind. I see no problem with shootin a bird off the roost. What's wrong with that?

Are you hunting or killing? Shooting them off the roost completely misses all that spring turkey hunting is about- since your asking me. It is just like killing a deer with a light- not hunting but poaching- only reason to do so is because your not a good enough hunter to get it done legally.

Good afternoon, although I won't shoot one out of a tree, it is NOT illegal in many states, therefore I wouldn't start calling people poachers, and it's not like shooting deer with a spotlight! That's poaching everywhere! LOL and have a good day!
