I've been to south texas and louisana quite a few times and i know how big the average buck gets but i saw some exceptional racks last time i went and one of them was a hugesouth texas buck a beautiful 5x5 (2 up on each side and kickers)and an even bigger one in lousiana it was in the river basin and i coudn't see it well, i'm thinkin it was a 6x6 typical(heavy brush) they both ran, couldn't get any photos but if you do post some pics (any buck if it's a trophy to you. They can be dead or alive)

So right you are about huge Louisiana bucks--We do have some "mules" down here--Getting a shot whether it be with film or rifle is a challenge--Hardwood clustors mixed with cypress bottoms and thickets all joined together by over grown bayous make for some challeging hunts--The bayous act as "feeders" and are trails used by game to access their feeding--breeding--and bedding areas--Once the running of dogs start you can then multiply your chances of not getting a decent shot by three--It does happen tho--I have not hunted in near bout 20 years, but just got back into it--Mainly to teach my sons and grandkids about nature and how they must respect it in order to protect it--There are so many game "outlaws" here--What a pity--We are working on getting this corrected too--For sure if I get a pic whether by camera or rifle I will surely post it ,but in a respectful way to the animal--Don't like some of the crap i see like beer cans stuck on antlers or the parading of animals on the hood of a truck--Call me ole fashion if ya wish, but this is America---Freedom of Speech--------

I have hunted Louisiana almost exclusively. I have seen some major bucks taken out over the last few years. Although outlawing is still a major problem we have, it is starting to decline. Some of the biggest bucks taken, from my experience, have been out of the public lands. Louisiana is one of the hardest states to hunt, because of the volume of hunters and the generations of outlawing. But your chances of taking a nice monster buck are still good if you know how to hunt and where to hunt. Every place that I have hunted the deer pattern differently, so it might take you a little while of hunting a certian area to learn the deer, but once you do, hunt long and hard, and you will be successful.
