I bought a Martin bow last year and it did not come with a stabilizer. I wanted to know if one may improve my aim. I do practice with my bow and have gotten use to any flaws the bow may have but will a stablizer help?

A stabilizer is an important accessory for your bow IMO. It will help balance the bow in your hand and also absorb vibration from the bow. The new S-coil by Limb Saver is an economical stabilizer and very effective.

A Stabilizer and any other bow accessory is only important if you need it. If your bow will sit in the crook of your hand between the thumb and the first finger without actually holding onto the bow then your fine. Most bows however do require some stabilization. the trick is to get the bow as close to balanced as possible without over-compensating. The more you have to hold the bow the better your chance of causing a twitch while shooting. Recoil absorption is also important to get the bow as quite as possible. This is extemely important during the hunt. Any noise during the shot will almost always cause a deer to jump your string. Go to a pro shop, with people who actually know what they're talking about, and have used the various products, to help you determine what you need in your particular situation. My bow only requires a small stabilizer, my buddy on the other hand has a much bigger stabilizer for his. I also use limb saver limb mounts, those reduce the noise dramatically.

What other types of aids do you use? I like my peepsight and I use a string loop with a release. My buddie bought one of those single pin adjustable sights for $120. He loves it. I think they are fine for 3D shoots but not hunting. I asked him what he would do if a deer came in at 15 yds, he set the pin, drew the bow and then the deer jumped out to 30yds. It isn't like you can draw down and reset the pin. He bought it anyway. The moral of the story is: There are a lot of fancy gadgets out there, but use common sense and try them at the archery shop, you buy from, before you leave. Our archery season comes back in on 26 Dec and runs until 14 Jan.

I use a peep also, as well as a release and 3 pin sight. I have a strap that is mounted using my stabilizer, that helps you to get comfortable shooting with an almost open palm. I aslo have whiskers on the string and keep the string and slide bar waxed. Keep eveything tight and my bow is nice and quiet. So far with the deer I've gotten with the bow, none have had a chance to jump the string. I haven't got one this year yet, but I still have 3 weeks to try with the bow. It's just so much harder when its only 15° outside.

A stabilizer will help balance out the sight and quiver(bow mounted). It helps reduce shock and vibration and helps to steady the bow while shooting. Highly recommend one under 12 inches for hunting purposes. Doinkers and the new sims s coil work really well and make the bow whisper quiet, and will help tighten those groups while shooting.

I too use the Doinker. This stabilizer is fantastic. I shoot a Darton bow and it is very quiet. A buddy of mine just got a PSE and he put all the bells and whisles on it. I'm talking string silencers, limb savers, rubber stabilizer, string guide dampner, etc etc etc. Now the bow weighs about 10 pounds. He never shot it without all this stuff so he never took the time to see what he needed and spent a lot of money. He was mad cause we went to a silk screen shoot and his bow shot 5 feet per second slower than mine. I think it had to do with the string silencers. I don't need them on my bow and I think they slow the string down.
