The 45-70, at least in my estimation, has gotten a bad "rap" due to liabilities from modern cartridges ending up in older actions that will not take the pressures required to handle these higher performance cartridges. I see, from time to time, photo's and success stories on the 45-70 when employed in conjunction with various bullet manufacturers. With all the new data being released on companies such as: Buffalo Bore, Garrett, and Grizzly Cartridge Company, respectively. I am curious why Cabela's does not list the 45-70 as a good candidate for large and dangerous game. Any insight on this forum would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Joe

Poke around on the computer, there are at least 50 loads listed, tons of powder loads and bullets, very strong actions are marlin lever and ruger #1. I just bought a ruger #1 in 45-70 and am going to use it this year for brown bear here in alaska. Some of the loads are showing muzzle energy of 3800 pnds.

I bought a single shot from Harrington & Richardson chambered in 45-70. The company is owned by Marlin. Anyways its there Buffalo Classic comes with a 32 in. barrel and can shoot the modern 40,000 psi loads. Only cost $360 dollars and is excellent to shoot. The only two problems I have with it is the fact that it must be cleaned if you even take it out of the case or else it will rust and that it has a steel but plate. That plate is quickly going to be replaced by a recoil pad.
