I'm looking at Cabelas Pine Ridge scopes. I'd like to here some opinions on them, Quality for price, etc... Also if anyone knows who makes them for Cabelas, I'm very curious.

I've looked over the Pine Ridge scopes and had the opportunity to use one. To be honest, I thought it was a pretty darn good scope for the money. I mean, it's not a high-end scope so I don't expect it to be. Depending on the application, I wouldn't hesitate to put one on a gun.
As far as who makes them, well, you're not going to get a Leupold... I'm betting that Cabela's has a parent company make them. By parent company, I'm talking about a company that produces optics for other name-brand companies as well. I doubt it'd actually be a company name you'd recognize. If you look at who makes what out there, I'd bet that not every optics manufacturer makes all of their own optics. Just a guess.

I have a 2-7x pine ridge on my muzzleloader. Compared to my more expensive scopes, it isn't as bright or clear. As far as budget scopes go, I own bushnell, simmons, and a pine ridge. All are servicable. The only scopes I've had bad experiences with are Tascos....I've had two that broke within the first 50 shots out of a gun.

Thanks for the replies. I've never had a scope on a rifle, always iron sights. But , since Hornady introduced their new lever evolution ammo, I'm thinking of putting one on my Winchester M-94, 30-30. I'm on a tight budget and thought the Pine Ridge scopes looked pretty good. I understand that it is not a high end scope and appreciate the opinions you both have given. I've heard good things about Leupold Rifleman scopes and might just save a little extra and go with it.

I forgot to ask which power of scope should I be looking for? My rifle is a Win. 94 30-30, max. shooting range will probably be 200 yards. I can't decide whether a 4x or avariable 2-7x would be best.

I have a bushnell 4x on my marlin 336c 30-30. About a year ago, I bought two pine ridge scopes for my 10/22 and my mini 14 ranch rifle. Chose them because they were the smallest scopes I could find that I thought might be of decent quality. I didn't want a bigger scope on my little carbines, would have made them seem 'top heavy'. The pine ridge scopes aren't quite as bright or clear as the bushnell, but for the price, they are a pretty good deal if you're on a budget. I'm thinking now of getting a red dot sight for the mini, but not because of any problems with the pine ridge scope. They're good enough I didn't return them.

I bought a Remington Model 700 combo with a Pine Ridge 3-9x40 scope at the new retail store in Glendale,AZ. When browsing I asked the salesman at the gun counter who makes Pine Ridge and he replied Nikon. The scope says made in China and My Nikon binoculars say Nikon Japan, but they are 10 years old. I just noticed this and have been trying to figure out if the salesman was correct ever since. I do like the scope.

Just noticed my post came back up. I ended up getting a PineRidge 2-7-40 and am really happy with it. I think the quality is very good even though it's made in China. It is fairly bright and clear and adjusts nice. For the price I am not dissappointed. I also have to plug Hornady's new Leverevolution ammo. The stuff is great . It extended my usefull range a litlle over 100 yards more and is more accurate than I am. I can't wait till deer season here.

Some years ago i bought a pine ridge scope from Cabelas, i was shocked when it arrived as the cross hairs were slanted in the tube, I am a vetran gun shooter and collector I would NEVER again deal with the pine ridge line of scopes, and YES CABELAS took it back with no problems. Go with leupold if you can on the other end Simmons Tasco top end scopes are ok.

Also consider older, used Leupold scopes. I bought a 4x on Ebay for $96.00 a few months ago. The new made in Japan Weavers look good too. I have several in straight 4 and 6 power. No problems and they are clear and bright. Natchez has them for around $125. They also have Weaver variables but I haven't tried them.
chuckhawks.com has a lot of info on scope tests. They are grouped by by quality and price.

I have saw nikon Prostaff 3X9X40 scopes on sale for just a little more than a $100. From what I have looked at them they sure are clear and would not hesitate to buy one.
I just bought a used Leupold VX-I for $90 at a local gun shop,it is a nice clear scope and sighted in real well on my 270. There are some good deals out there if you take your time and look.

I just ordered and received a 30/30 lever action pineridge scope and had the same problem w/the cross-hairs not be level. I think the scope is of good quality except for the cross-hair problem. Has anyone else had any problems with this scope?

Be careful when purchasing a Pine Ridge Scope from Cabelas, they do not repair them if you have problems and they apparently are not the manufacture of the Scope.
So if you have problems that go beyond the workmanship of the product
your out of luck trying to get them to repair it.
You will have to take it to a Optics's repair shop or find the Manufacture.
At least that is what I was told.
