I just saw this gun at scheels the other day, and it looked like a good deal ($190 w/ scope). Anybody have one or shot one? How are they? Thx.

I have a 597, won it a NRA convention. It's pretty nice, wood/stainless but make sure you load the magazine perfectly, or else it will jam. And even though the magazine "holds" 10 rounds, its really hard to fit that many in. If you get one I suggest getting an improved metal magazine with it instead of the already equipped plastic one. Accuracy with mine is very good, hitting a bottle cap at 50 yards over and over is easy with just a small scope. For $190 I say get it.

Decent gun. Remington's attempt at a 10/22. I've seen them cheaper. What kind of scope is it?

I purchasd a 597 package with scope (tasco) at an outdoor stor (not sure if we can mention other stores in this forum)in Charlotte nc a couple of days ago for 129.00 I thought that was a decent price. I am yet to shoot it and I hope I made the right choice instead of the rugar 10/22
