If anyone is looking for the ultimate in riflescope versatility, check out Kahles new CL multi-zero scope. I picked up one a few weeks ago and am really impressed with it. It takes a little time to set up, but I think it will be worth it once I get into the field. So far it's just been bench work. You can preset three different zero distances and quickly spin the dial to be there.
The 3-9x42 is great for big game and variable enough for just about any situation. I've got it mounted on a .30-06 and have put it through the paces with six boxes of ammo. First I set it up with Federal Premium 165 grain BTSP bullet and then with the 180 grain BTSP. I used 100/200/300 yards with the 180 grain load and then 200/300/400 with the 165 grain load. I used these distances because to me, they make sense. In tighter country, I can see myself using distances more like 100/150/200. Kahles has a winner with this scope. The more I worked with it the quicker I got at the set up and use at different distances. It dials in quickly and is easy to find the right distance without looking.
Can't wait until hunting season.
