just wondering. my 16 year old son is using a 270 on a cow elk hunt in two weeks. he killed his first elk last year using a borrowed 30.06, but this is his own rifle and he wants to use it, shoots it well. it's sighted in with federal premium nosler partition tips, 150 grain. but i'm wondering about the new core lokt ultras....but they are available only in 140 grain for the 270.
despite the lighter grain is this a better bullet...better expansion and penetration for a 270 on elk than the old standby noslers?
thanks

Not really keep using the Partitions.

Partitions are the way to go between the two but have you tryed the trophy bonded bearclaws that nosler puts out. They would be a good choice. If you hand load the 140 gr barnes tsx work wonders on elk. Good luck.

You answered your own question already...
If your son is shooting well with the Noslers, why change?
A Nosler Partition is a great bullet and I see no reaso to change it at all.

I have a Winchester Mod. 70 in .270 that I use for elk hunting here in Colorado. I use the Federal High Energy trophy bonded Bear Claw and have been extremely happy with it. I took a 6x6 bull 2 years ago at 355 yards. The bullet was very accurate and put the bull down on the spot. What more can you ask for? Good luck!!

I can get core lokt in 150 grain. I shoot them for muleys. But the federals work great.

I have been using the Partitions in 160 grain .270. Work great! Good deep penetration and expansion.

I suggest the Barnes 130 TSX or 140 in the 270 Win makes a excellent Elk round.
