I recently got a 15 foot ladderstand and where I hunt it is relatively swampish but there are plenty of great places to hang a treestand and there are many many deer trails around but im not sure where to put it up does anyone have any ideas?

There is never the perfect place to put your stand. You can however enhance the odds. The key is to scout the area. Look for trail junctions. Know if you are between bedding area's and feeding area's. Wind direction will play a large part, in stand location. Depending on the weapon you use, ie. bow or gun will also dictate how close to a trail you must set-up. Line of sight is another consideration. Make sure you can see from differnt approach directions. Another consideration is how far you are willing to drag the deer. You can find larger buck is areas that are not pressured as hard. Deer tend to move towards feeding areas at the end of the day. Hunting close to the bedding location may give you an early shot and provide daylight to locate your kill. Look for scrapes, rubs, and droppings. Ask friends who know the area. Choose several locations. Remember, you are not the only one hunting and you may find someone else in your area when you get there. Having a back-up location means you can still have a good day of hunting. Keep in mind is is called hunting for a reason. Not killing. You will make a lot of mistakes choosing a stand location. The more you are out there, the more you will learn. Seeing the deer in their habitat and how they move around will dictate stand location. Good luck, enjoy, and make sure someone knows where you are hunting. Think safety. 15 feet will feel like 150 if you fall. "AIRBORNE"
