I won a SBE out of DU 1or 2 years ago. Every I get into a big drove of doves th gun catches. After every hunt i completely disassemble the gun and clean it. I cant figure ouut what the problem is. Should i send it back to Benelli or bring it to the local gunsmith?

The only weird thing I've found with my SBEII is the bolt MUST slam shut to rotate and lock all the way in. If you let the bolt close slowly, it won't turn and close the last lttle bit. When this happens and you pull the trigger, the hammer falls but won't strike the firing pin. Try letting your bolt close slowly and watch the bolt head, and then let it close faster, you'll see what I mean. Not sure if this is what you're experiencing, hope it helps.

What kind of loads are you shooting? Please give brand, shot weight, and dram equivalent.

Are you holding the gun firmly in your shoulder, and what is your weight?

If you send it back, Benelli is going to ask these two questions first.

Mark,

+1 on the post. Long time no post.... Good to see a post again.

Wish I could help you. I have owned three benelli's ( still have two of them) and I have only had one jam when I used someones very very light trap loads that he reloaded.... That is the only time I have ever used handloads for shotgun. Any factory load, be it light trap or heavy turkey have all performed flawlessly. I would check to make sure everything is installed correctly.

plentywood, i have noticed this also, but after I fire a shotshell the bolt catches without me touching it. If the doves are still anywhere around me i can sometimes pull back the bolt and the gun shoot fine until i repeatedly shoot several rounds again. But on several occasions once i pull back the bolt after it catches it will jam again.
Mark, I usually shoot Remingtons ,Winchesters, and Kents. The shot weight is 1oz-1 1/2oz. I cant tell you dram equivalent right off the bat but i'll get back to you. I am holding the gun firmly to my shoulder. And my weight is 150-160lbs.

The SBE won't function reliably with 1 oz loads. I would recommend you switch to 1 1/8 oz loads with 3 dram equivalent, your choice of shot size. This should cure the problem.

Before you go dove hunting, shoot a round of clays or skeet to be sure this fixed the problem. The SBE is known for reliability, you should be able to enjoy your gun with a little heavier load.
