Howdy friends. Well I took a really big male skunk in one of my bobcat set yesterday. Descented him as usual ( got 25cc on one side and 30cc on the other of essence.) Decided it was time to put up my first skunk, so got out the fleshing beam and knives and about an hour later had him finshed and on the stretcher. It was not bad. I thought that since there is a market of sorts I would be able to sell the hide put up. Most local buyers do not want to give much, if anything for a skunk hide. Posting this so if there are any young or older trappers out here that don't put up their fur that this would give them some encouragement. It is very self satifying to take the caught animal and see it a a semi finished product. Take Care. Tom

A suggestion -

Back when I used to tan my own hides, I found fleshing the hides a lot of work. I found that one of those string trimmers work pretty darn good for fleshing the hide. Made life easier for me.

More than one way to do everything. Did you lay it out or have it on a board? I have also heard some folks use a power washer, but the North American Fur Harvesters ***. said they will not buy fur that has been power wash fleshed and if they do they will mark it down. Take Care. Tom
