Rifle Bullet Grains

I am going to puschase my first rifle soon. I have been hunting with shotguns for as long as I could hunt. I want to know what the grain of a bullet is. I see it all over but just get confused.

the grain of a bullet is how much the lead / copper projectile weighs in grains. an example would be, a 180 grain bullet is shooting a 30 grain heavier bullet than a 150 grain bullet . jim

or in shotgun terms 1 oz vs. 1 1/4oz. there is alot of grains in a oz though. think of slugs some sabot are like 577 gr they say instead of giving it in oz fractions.

As a matter of fact, there are 7000 grains in a pound, so an ounce is 437.5 grains. The simplest answer is the one already given. A 180 grain bullet is heavier than a 150 grain bullet.

What is the rifle for?

A 22lr for small game or centerfire for deer and other game.
