My dad and me dont get to hunt that much so we are wondering if anyone knew of a place to within an hour or two of portland where the upland hunting is fairly good? We have tried EE Wilson and it just isn't worth going to (not enough birds). Thanks

I lived in Monmouth for 3 years and have hunted EE Wilson many times. I agree- not too many birds even when they are releasing them... Having a dog is a must out there. If you like the area, I would literally knock on the doors of the farms and houses in the surrounding area. A lot of people out there lease the land to specific farmers, and they can give you all the contact info you need (including some tips of where to go). The worst they can say is no. But, no big deal- There is great hunting on Sauve Island, you need to reserve a time or get there very early to get in line. Everyone is nice and will give you great tips for hunting out there( plus its closer to ptown then Monmouth...).

Personally, I hunted a lot out toward the Dalles, and more towards Pendelton- amaizing amount of pheasent, and the best hunting I have done in a long time... Like I said, Farmers are the key! Let them know you wont litter on their land (empty shells ect) and you have the opportunity to develope long time relationships. Great hunting every year!!

Good luck!
