I Am Looking For Information On Drop Compensators That Leupold Installs In Their Scopes. Is It A Good Idea Or Not And What Faults That Anyone Has Had Using Them.
Thanks For The Info

Drop compensators can be a good thing. However, they only work if you only use one ammo. So, you must use the same bullet at the same velocity for them to be accurate.

What exactly is a drop compensator? Sounds like something for long range shots.

A Drop Compensator Is Installed In Your Scope By Leupold And It Measures The Amount Your Bullet Will Drop At Longer Ranges. I Have Heard It Works Well At 400 Plus Yards. Once You Range The Animal With A Range Finder. You Dial Your Scope In To That Yardage Then You Hold Your Cross Hairs Right On And You Should Hit Where You Were Aiming.
You Can Log Onto Leupold Web Site And Receive More Information And They Can Explain It Better If You Can't Understand My Writing.
Thanks

the alternative to drop compensators: target turrets. then make a cheat sheet for each load how many clicks to zero at what distance. i've got a springfield scope with fixed range marks... what a hassle to find that one load to match those marks at those specific ranges. a small note taped on the stock tells me what to set the leupold target turret at... much better system for me.
Hey Todd G.!
I haven't seen your name for a while. Nice to have you around again.
Sorry, I don't want to hi-jack the thread.

Seems like the summer turned into fall and now I have to hunt....
Still check in quite regularly, just seems like time gets so short.

Just bought a Leupold VX III 8.5x25-50 with the varmint hunter's recticle, I put it on a Reminton model 700 VS SF .22-250. I am shooting a 55 grain nosler/winchester combined technologies bullet. The compensator works, especially in a cross wind. Leupold explains the recticle on their website. Once you learn it , it'll be your best friend. It works for a wide range of bullets and calibers. I also have a VX III 8.5x25-50 with a target dot on a Browning .243wssm Varmint Stalker but it now stays in the gun safe. It is worth the extra money for the compensator recticle. Without compensator recticle around 850.00 with compensator around 950.00 for Leupold VX-III 8.5x25-50 LR SF. Proof is in the pictures. Check out our varmint page for our hunt club.http://www.tripleshuntclub.com/varmints.htm
