What choke would you suggest for close in duck/goose hunting during our opener next weekend. !2 ga. 3 inch #2 and BB shot. Range will be no more than 40 yards. (Small pond.) My gun shoots a good pattern with both my improved and modified cylinder. (If a goose is seen it will be a quick pass by shot.) I am leaning towards the modified. Thanks. Flatcoat.

You'd be leaning correctly. I'd go modified.

I hunt the exact same situation and shot sizes and shell size ,use a modified and it works great for me.

You did great by patterning your shotgun, as different guns throw different patterns. As we all know steel shot shoots tighter in most cases then lead, bismuth or hevi shot. For ducks over decoys I prefer #4 steel and keep my shots well under 30 yards, if im shooting Hevi shot ill reach out to the 50 yard mark using a Browning citori OU with Mod/Full. Hevi shot has amazed me over the years I just wished Remington would bring the price down. Last month we were shooting Canada Geese in Wyoming Hevi shot was dropping birds as though we were shooting lead shot. When in doubt about chokes use more open chokes and you will hit more birds.
