Cabela's is interested in learning where our customers enjoy riding. In particular, what trails you enjoy in various states. We'd also like to use this thread to update people about trail closures and new trails opening for public use. No links please to pay-per-ride trails. Thanks for your help.

Dan,

Can't help you on trails for ATV's as I don't own one. Just wanted to let you know that CO has put the burden onto the ATV rider to know which trails are open and which are closed. This means anybody riding in the state of CO is responsible for checking websites, updating maps, etc, etc before they even think about getting on a trail. Any Forest Service, BLM, Park Ranger, Game Warden, or state employee in theses fields can write tickets now.

Also, you must register your ATV with CO before use on any trail. Be aware of this law.

So if anybody posts trails in CO, make darn sure you are up to date on info.

That is all. Hope it helps anyone interested.

Kelly

I'm not sure my two-wheeler counts as an ATV, but as for riding -- if you haven't tried Deal's Gap (aka, The Dragon), on the NC/TN line, you should give it a try.

We just returned from a trip to Colorado to ride atvs. We were in the Leadville and Breckenridge area and had a blast. I think the two routes we took were Camp Hale and Wise Mountain.

In Nebraska, we like to ride Halsey National Forest and the Headworks area near Genoa.

Don't know of any here around N AL. Gotta go over towards N GA or TN to get into any. Don't you think it's about time for Cabelas to cross the border and come on down here and make a difference? We're waiting, and have good money to spend!

BTW, the Forest Service in CO is recommending changing the travel management plans for the White River National Forest in NW Colorado. They are wanting to shut down 900 and some odd ATV spur roads. That will cut down the number of ATV routes by half. It's not final yet, but check before you ride.

We usually ride old logging roads. Rarely do we look for mud. Just causes bad landowner relations. There are several atv clubs in Maine now... I need to join one.
