What do you think the best caliber is for bobcats. I just bought a new Reminton 700 in the .204 just for bobcats. I am going to shoot a 40 grain bullet

Depends what you plan to due with the animal after you shoot it. If you are going to mount it then you want a small caliber FMJ bullet thats been down loaded some so that it doesn't tear up the animals body. Otherwise just use the most accurate rifle that you have.

Wounded animal calls really help to bring them in closer if you know one is in the area.

the 204 is an excellent choice for that size of animal, but there is one problem. You are gonna blow the crap out of the hide with the type of bullets that are available. Maybe a 223/22-250 with a barnes bullet (if they make 'em) would be better. Barnes bullets don't expand as violently and therefore they don't make such a big hole. Just a thought, good luck.

I don't think that would be legal. one shot to the head? Shooting a bobcat with a pellet gun is unethical and I hope is illegal.

I agree unethical and maybe unlawful with a pellet gun. The chances that the shot from a pellet gun would get lucky and kill the animal would be too small. Most likely it will just disturb the bobcat and cause them future harm.

A .22 Mag Rifle or something smilar shot to the head should be able to put down the animal.

I hunt bobcat alot and i discoverd that a 22 mag is the lowest u would want to go! I've killed one with a 22 long rifle and boy thats going to be the last! I waited 15 minutes to walk up to it and now i wish i wouldve waited 2 hours. it was still alive and was madder than anything when it saw me but after 2 more shots it finally died. but i would say the 22 mag is the lowest but i have a 40. cal carbine and they work excellent and i would mostly recomend it and thats the highest i would go in cal. if you plan to keep the hide or mount it.
