Yesterday, the Martin Tiger youth bow that I ordered for my kids arrived. My 6 yr old Megan is shooting it like a champ! I went to Cabela's today and bought a half-dozen GoldTip youth arrows, which have regular nocks, which I can rotate so the fletch clears properly. What a fantastic combo! With the weight down at 10lbs draw weight and the nocks properly set, she's hitting my 16x16 inch block at about 10 yards, almost every time! What's more important, she's having a BALL.

I have to get some fun targets for her now.....

Just had to share!

As I sit here watching my 19 month old feed herself chicken nuggets with a fork I can only smile in anticipation of the day when she pulls back the bow, hits the target, and grins from ear to ear!!!!

Awesome moment to share Tom!!!

I can just hear it now come Sept 30th... " Dad I want to go hunting too!!"

Thansks, Pat. She's already been out squirrel hunting with me (to watch), but PA now allows for a "Mentored Youth" hunt....squirrels, groundhogs, spring gobblers, and antlered deer are all fair game (within normal seasons).

She's a great shot with her Stevens CrackShot .22 already, and I think maybe fall 2010 (she'll be 7) she'll be able to go for some squirrels with me.

It's a blast, I'll tell ya.....and when we were at Cabela's, Megan said to me "Dad, we need to remember to get me hunting clothes so I can go with you deer hunting this year". I promised I'd take her with me in rifle season (late season) sometime. I'll set up my pop up blind somewhere we will hopefully see some doe, there won't be many people (if any) out, and she can have something to do on the ground out of view while we wait (coloring books, reading, etc.).

Thats awesome isn't it. My son is five and my daughter is ten. They shoot with me sometimes.... Daughter prefers the bow but my son prefers shooting cans with the bb gun.

Isn't it great!! Mackenzie already raises her right hand and goes "bang, bang, bang" every time there is a deer on TV, or she sees one of my mounts on the wall. Not too mention all the kids books with all the fuzzy creatures in them. You should see peoples faces when they are reading a book to her, a deer is on the page and she goes "bang, bang, bang"...

Priceless

Pin some balloons to your target Tom. You can start out big and work your way smaller. Heck, at 56, I still get a kick out of popping balloons with my bow. Nice to hear about a future bowhunter.

Dont foret to put some corn starch or flour in those balloons for a little extra "puff" of magic when hit.
