Every year we donate to the local community at least 3-5 deer through a program at the locker. We only keep 1 deer to eat each year.

I think its awesome that you guys do that. We have talked about it in years past, but our land has seen such a decline in deer sightings in the past couple of years, we are only taking what we need.

I gave a whole deer to a very needy family a few years ago . it did make me feel good to think I helped out .
just be sure the organization will use it . or find one that will . a few states threw away all the hunter donated meat because of the lead scare . this happened just a year or two ago . what a shame that was . Jim
Nebraska has a fantastic program called the deer exchange. It's done through the Game & Parks and hunters that are willing to donate meat can put their contact info on the G&P website and people that don't hunt but would like deer meat can also post. The website lists individuals by county and each poster can post exactly what they will donate or accept (field dressed only, boned, etc). The people (2) that I donated to were so incredibly grateful for the meat. They acted like I was doing them a favor when in fact, it is I that am indebted to them for extending my season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see other state's G&P's follow suit.

I would love to but ND only accepts those shot with bow due to the lead scare. Many people don't have good meat to eat because of the morons that think it will cause harm. People have been eating animals for centuries shot with lead with no problems. Hopefully some day they will wisen up.

Every year I feed several people with the deer I kill. We have such an enormous population and our limits are rediculously high. I try to help as much as I can.
