I've had my eyes on a Hoyt Alpha Max. Has anyone shot this bow or had any experience with either models. It's been many years since I've bow hunted and would like to get back in the sadle. I've owned 2 Hoyts but that was 18 years ago. I know the bow industry has changed during that time so I would like to hear any advice on re-entering the sport. A road trip will be required to visit a Hoyt dealer when I get a chance. What is your opinion on my choice of bows?

I think Hoyt is still in the big 3 manufacturers along with Mathews and Bow Tech. My son owned a Hoyt a few years back and wasn't happy with the riser design. I've never shot one, but I do believe their quality is as good as anyones.

I don't know much about bows but with all the research I have been doing on Bowtech I have had Hoyt suggested to many times. They are very nice bows. Like Gary said, they are in the top 3 and I'm 98% sure that you will not be disappointed with what you get.

I handled but didn't shoot an AlphaMax. Very nice bow. Very nice. I personally had a dislike for the riser style and the way the bow felt as a result, but even with it, it was a good solid bow. That's all just personal opinion, though.
The pro shop owner told me it was just that, personal preference, between that one and the Bowtech Captain I wound up buying. The Bowtech was almost totally shock free and QUIET when I shot it. He told me the AlphaMax is identical, just a different feel from the riser. Some like it, some don't. It's a darn nice bow, though.

I shot the AM 32 and 35 while I was bow shopping this spring. Hoyt makes great bows and the Alpha Max is a good design. I shot bows from Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech, Mathews, and Elite before making my choice, but I can honestly say everything I shot was a good bow and I could have been happy with. I ended up choosing the bow that fit my personal preferences the best, and although it wasn't an Alpha Max I still think they are nice bows. They are fast, pretty quiet, not much vibration, and held on target really well for me. I just ended up choosing a bow that what I felt had a smoother draw cycle and more of a valley.

I narrowed it down to the Elite GT500 and the Mathews Reezen 7.0. After shooting them side by side for quite a while on my last visit to the shop I ended up ordering the Reeezen. I've had it for a couple of months now and I'm really happy with it, I think it was the right choice for me. Some bows just feel right to some people and the Reezen was that way for me. But I think I shot 9 or 10 different bows and I don't think any of them were bad bows, but some definitely didn't suit me as well as some of the others.
I think anyone will find the right bow for them if they take as many as possible for a test drive, there are a ton of great choices on the market today.

I think holding the bow, it is one of the most comfortable grips Hoyt has come out with and it is very light. As Arnie said, I had a magna-tech with laminated limbs and the riser design was poor at best. It made adjusting my prong rest I was using at the time nearly impossible. I also had a hard time keeping that bow tuned because of the dual cam system.
I've had a Hoyt LazerTec for three years and wanted to upgrade this year. My pockets wasn't deep enough for the AlphaMax so I bought the Super Hawk in the Bone Collectors edition. The bow looks and shoots awesome. The rubber grips are great. The parrallel limbs was the biggest difference. I noticed on the first shot. I would recomend anyone that hunts to buy this bow.

I am lucky to live in a area with pro shops everywhere I always shoot all the new bows. I have buddys that I hunt with own 2 of the pro shops. To me the alpha max 32 is a very good bow I think it is the best bow hoyt has ever made. I shot a mathews dxt if i was going to buy a new bow it would be a alpha max 32
My Hoyt Aspin is going strong and since I still shoot fingers there realy is no better bow for being cerridical of non-perfect releases by fingers. A defex rieser with the longest limbs, low let off and a non arressive cam.
Sort of an expensive way to go in the opposite direction of most bows today. Its like 8-10 years old but theres no technolgy that has changed that makes a better finger shooter bow.
