I generally use between 4-6 lb test on my panfish rigs and 8lb on everything else but catfish rigs.I would say I use 6 lb more often than any of them. I don't think you really need anything heavier,I've never seen a 8 lb bluegill! I guess if the terrain has a bunch of rock and timber I might go up to 8.I never used Spider wire,I heard it is pretty tough. What size do you generally use?

well the panfish don't really get all that big here , butt we mostly use 8 # for everything . 6# when we hit streams that just have brookies , now for my cats from 8# to 12 # all spider wire some Braid .

I wish we had trout in our streams down here! I can see why you prefer 8#.

I never heard of Vanish. Is that a brand name or some kind of name on certain brands? I'm always looking for new things to try.

I prefer 4lb for bluegills, ultra light rods as well, but not the short ones, I normally use my flyrod with a spinning reel, sure is fun!

For trout, panfish and bass (not trolling) I try to stick between 4-8 lbs. Striper and Blue fish I just up to 20 Lbs. With trolling for salmon and lake trout i'll try to stay from 8-12 lbs. thats not to say that I will not troll with 4 lb line. I have plenty of times. Its just not on my normal trolling rod.
