What do you guys carry or wish to carry with you when in hunt for birds such as chukar, quail, and maybe some pheasants?

Hmmm... I'm a bit of an odd-ball here, actually favoring the guns I've had for years and successfully fighting the urge for new shotguns...

For upland, my fav is an old .410 O/U I got from my Dad... Little off-brand Italian, Investarm - light, great shooter.

For waterfowl, I used another old gun I've had for almost 20 years... It's an Ithaca 87 Featherlight... Shame they went under. Best gun I think a fella could have. Never jammed or caused me a bit of trouble.

Gun talk, coupled with the cooler weather we've been getting here (40s at night), we'll be in the ducks soon (I HOPE)!!!

I would like to carry a nice 20 gauge over under. I Have blown quail apart with my 12 gauge to the point there was no meat that i could eat.

My favorite gun to carry for most every upland bird other than pheasant is my 20 gauge Beretta Silver Pigeon. As an o/u, its light and swings fantastic. However, if I'm in a situation where pheasants are likely, I love my 16 gauge Browning Gran Lightning o/u.

Remington 870, althought I just bought a new Benelli Nova 3.5" I might use the 870 for Upland and the Benelli for the Geese and Ducks.

I've got a 20 gauge side-by-side that a buddy has left with me for a while. It's a great gun for upland birds. It's only downfall is that when I shoot it a bit, and the barrels get hot, it sticks opening and closing and can be a pain. I used it on doves and ended up frustrated.

Otherwise, and don't laugh at me, I have a Mossberg 835 that I bought back in the mid 90's. It's a factory turkey-specific gun, meaning it came with only the x-full choke and a 24" non-ported barrel. I have used this gun for everything you'd ever use a shotgun for and it has never really failed me. I've bought extra chokes too... It's loud and kicks pretty good with the short barrel, but results speak volumes.

What would I like to get? Ahhhhhhhhhh Just lead me to the gun counter, I'll take 'em all.

I really think the 20 guage is the best upland gun. Being not too big and not too small. Any make is ok. I have used every sige guage there is. For ducks and gueese the 12 guage and squirrels and rabbits the 410. Then again everyone has there preferences.

For me it has to be the Beretta A303 in 20 gauge. I had a 391 in 20 gauge and it just wasn't the same as my old 303. Easy to carry in the mountains when hunting for chukars, swings fast on quail in the woods.

I love my Benelli Montefeltro 12. I use it for everything. Its kick is reduced by the inertia driven design, it's light weight and with a little adjustment it fits me great. Oh, and the most important feature, I kill stuff with it.

Unlike some golfers who buy high priced clubs for show, I don't buy a firearm to look good in the clubhouse. An important issue for me is adjustability. I've got a long neck and usually need to adjust the rise. Benellis are easy to custom fit yourself.

I've shot the Beretta 390, and they're in the same class of shotgun. I just got a better deal on the Benelli at the time.

I tote a Remington 1148 20 gauge. Its just challenging enough for dove and dosn't blast close-range quail too bad... Great gun... I've gotten two Pheasant with it aswell.

Winchester 1300 XTR 12ga., vent rib, with winchoke. I purchased this gun 24 years ago (I was 14 yrs old) with money I had saved from walking beans, baleing hay, and de-tasseling corn that summer. I remember taking a lot of crap from my buddies who all had Remingon 870 Wingmasters, but never regretted buying my beautiful Winchester. It will be passed to one of my sons someday.
Recently, I purchased a Winchester Super X2 Lightweight. I have not taken it into the field, but love to practice with it! I hope to get back to Iowa this month and try it out on some pheasant.

My favorite upland gun is one I will personally never be able to own. It would be an english made Purdey game gun, side by side in 20 guage. I had the pleasure of feeling one a couple years ago at the Orvis shooting club in Millbrook N.Y.

Seeing as how I have not got 15 -20K to blow on a gun right now, I will stick with my Browning A-5 auto lite 12. It just seems to fit me well and rarely lets em keep on flying. Its a pleasure to shoot all day! It's not a goose shooter but gets the job done nicely on pheasant and ruffed grouse in my neck of the woods.

Guten abend,

Remington 870 Special Field LW 20ga in full choke, circa 1982. I really enjoy hunting with it.

I recently bought a rare 21" SF Imp Cyl barrel for mine, can't wait to try it out.

The shotgun I really enjoy to hunt pheasants now, is my Ruger Gold Label SxS KSXSS 1228 12ga.

Both shotguns are very light weight, fast to get on target.

My absolute fav is an old Browning B2000 Belgium auto that my dad gave me a few years back. It's light, swings fast and is a joy to shoot.

The other would have to be an old Beretta AL-2 auto. I bought the gun some 30 years ago as a kid in Missouri and it looks just as good as the day I bought it. I had some Briley tubes installed. Very light, swings great and can carry it all day long.

I use a 20 ga. Browning BPS Upland Special. It has a thumb safety so can be used by left and right handed shooters, is very quick for chukar and quail with its short 23" barrels and is EXTREMELY reliable. I've used it in every imaginable conditions for a dozen years without a single jam.

I use it for all upland game smaller than pheasants. For pheasants, I prefer a 12 ga. and use my Browning Citori double barrel.

my dad's 'ole 870 Rem. Express for pheasants- but after having my benelli supernova turkey gun on the trap fields for fun- i'd like to look into a SBE II - have heard nothing but good things, aside from something that i couldn't afford similar to my "upstate" neighbor DcLewis! (it's nice to dream though, huh?)

Only got 12g's for now, so my favorite is SBEII, next shotgun will be Benelli Cordoba in 20g. That oughta be a fine quail gun. Would like a nice SXS or O/U, but for now, shooting in the AZ desert can be rough on guns and finishes.

My favorite is an Ithaca/SKB Model 100 side by side 20 guage. It only weighs 6#. On quail it is deadly.

The new Franchi Renaissance Classic O/U 12ga - 28 in. that I got last year. Carry it all day, at just a hair over 6 lbs., and with that built in gel pad a guy can shoot all freakin' day if he wanted.

Ugartechea 20 ga SxS

SKB 685 12 ga O/U Golden Clays

I enjoy shooting each of these equally.

i grew up in kansas hunting pheasant, quail and dove. i have always used a 20 gauge. i never could get comfortable with the added weight of most 12s. i have a franchi automatic, ruger red label, an old winchester 101, and my favorite, citori lightning that i have only had for dove season, i like them all and of course have shot the first three for years, but i am definately going to be partial to the citori this season! those are my favorites and what i use, all those guns are fairly light and the little franchi will where you out with recoil when dove hunting.
