Hello All, I am getting excited. Less than a month until the first hunting season - squirrel. We have an Aug. 15th opener. How does this compare to others? Warm weather - sometimes hot - , some bugs, good practice, early scouting and even a nice meal at the end. (Squirrel and dumplings!!! Fried squirrel!!!) Can't hardly wait. Flatcoat.

Chavez, We mainly hunt the fox and gray squirrel. Where I live we also have a few red squirrel - considered a nusiance species and does not count in the bag limit. I, too, cannot wait for Sept. 1. We will have dove, early teal (maybe wood duck) and goose but those little rodents are a favorite of mine. Flatcoat.

I can't wait for Sept 15th dove opener. Dove wrapped in bacon on the grill is some darn good eatin.

Brent, Squirrel and dumplings? Pretty darn good too. My son's favorite meat is squirrel. When he started school he did not understand why they don't have squirrel for lunch! Think of the possibilities! (I like doves wrapped in bacon too. Hve you ever tried doves in a casserole dish with some dressing (like you stuff a turkey with) on top. Cook until done. Moist and tender. MMMMMMMMMMMMM! Flatcoat.

Ok you'll have to see it from my point of view.. Indiana = trees, Nebraska = prairie The only squirrels we see are the neighborhood pests that we try to catch in cages. I think I average about 3 squirrels a deer season when I am hunting the river bottom. I guess they are more abundant and available out east so you guys get more crazy ideas to eat um :) Me i'll stick with catching them in the trap
