The gunsmith in Fallon Nevada was Ugalde. "The U in the Thompson Center Ugalde cartridge-TCU. " But when I went back to him with my Mauser, there was a new owner. It needed a glass bedding and a new trigger. When I asked how much it would be, I should have known when he responded;"depends on how pi#@ed off I get". This "smith" Ron, now has a bicycle shop" And after the wrong color bed job, a lost original trigger and a too small timney. I was off to my next Fallon smith named Jay. I should have known when I found out he was deaf. The poor old Mauser had several holes from several bases that never fit the contour. So Jay was tasked to make a base set that fit the contour, "WITHOUT DRILLING ANY MORE HOLES"! My dismay was indescribable when I got my Mauser back. It had many more holes drilled in it and the base contour was worse than before. I paid him without a word, He couldn't have heard me anyhow! My uncle picked that Mauser off the battle field, then my Dad's only deer rifle, then dear mom passed it to me. Then I had shot many whitetails with it too. I work on all my guns now. Always will. The best smith at Hole In The Wall in Minnesota had to meet his maker. Guess if a smith don't have a bridgeport or is blind, it's prolly an indication to "Run"!

Update on the previous mauser scope base install by Jay-The deaf gunsmith in Fallon Nv./I had mounted a scope on the Mauser but never sighted it in. The Mauser failed miserably last month to my surprise. No more adjustment up and still shot one foot low at 25 yards. Obviously Jay did more than drill more holes in my receiver. He used a one piece redfield base and pulled the rear down with the attach screws! Ha! Way to go Jay! I loosened the screws and TWANG, The rear of the steel base sprung up in the air. Looks like about a dimes worth of shim is gonna be required to get right back to square one. Maybe more. "Never trust a shop Keeper!"
