I just bought a Winchester Featherlight in 270WSM and have a M8 6x42 Leupold scope to put on it. The rifle is left hand, since I am left handed and left eye dominate. What style of scope mounts do you think would be good? I have been looking at the traditional weaver style and dual dovetail style. (Two piece bases are easier to get to fit a left handed gun. Not to mention easier to get.) Thanks for your advice.

I'd grab Leupold 2-piece mounts and never look back. It's what I have on my M70's, and I've never had a problem.

I'd only install the low Talley one piece lightweight ring/base with that combination. I practice what I preach and they're on my Kimber .325!

How do you like your .325?

I want one.

I'm in love with it. I have no need for my other rifles now as far as I can tell. "Why's my nose growing"? I hope to get it fired in November. Looks like Midway will be my Ammo supplier even tho they list none yet. I like the listed price.

From my experience, Burris makes better rings and bases, they might be a little more expensive than Leupold, but look to be more well made, IMHO. Jay

Lotta Gunsmiths in Arkansas swear by the old Redfield mounts and say they will not budge once installed correctly? I used a set of Warne on my Model 100 .243 and really like the way they look and a Leupold specialst told me about them. I also use the 6x42 and i really like it a lot, just need to do some more practise shooting like everyone else. Oh yea i forgot some people do not need any practise and never make mistakes and know every answer to ever question, thank god i have no need in falling into this classification!! Leupold has on their website a mount finder that a lotta people use!!

Talley mounts are good. I have mounted scopes in Talley's and I prefer their design for mounting (easier to keep things level than the two piece ring design).

That said, my M70 sports Leupold Dual Dovetail mounts, and I'm plenty happy with them. My other '06 has a very, very old Weaver K4 in Weaver mounts, which are also fine.

Good mounts should be something you worry about exactly once....when you install them. If you ever had to pay attention to them again, something's probably wrong.

On my rifles that do not have iron sights, I use only Burris Signature Series, two piece, dual dovetail mounts. On my big bore rifles with iron sights, I use Warne Quick Release mounts that work real well.
