I'd love to hunt chukkar (wild) some day. I've hunted planted birds before - but can only imagine the thrill of hunting them wild.

Whereabouts are they native? To be honest, I am not sure where - only that they are a western mountainous bird...

Good eatin' too!

I personally hunt them in the ****'s Canyon area on both the Idaho and Oregon side of the Snake River. They live in the high deserts. This year calls for record birds. Better oil up the ol' Perazzi and charge up the shock collar, the dogs are gonna be crazy. See you all on the mountain.

I used to hunt the snake river breaks myself back when I lived in WA. Fun birds and Sooo Fast! Never had a dog which made things tough but could scratch out a few birds every now and again. Are you going to do any steelheading on the river?

I might go for a little cast and blast myself. I would have to drive farther as I usually hunt above Brownlee. How is the run lookin this year?

Anywhere in Nevada. Up north around Jackpot is my favorite place to go, at the northern end of the humboldt valley. I think if i could hunt only one bird this would be it. Saw a bumper sticker once that said "chukar hunters are WALKING proof that duck hunters are smarter." Always hear the saying, the first time you hunt chukar it's for fun. Every time after that it's for revenge!

I hunt with an English Pointer, she's the best dog I ever had! Birdy as all get out, and smart. That combination = dead birds

I live in Reno, NV and hunt northern Washoe County and Humboldt Co. I try to get out 2 or 3 weekends a month. Also, just got a German Shorthair pup.....she'll be 6 months old in November, and I'm hoping she'll be ready to go!!!

Nothing else compares to Chukar hunting! It is some of the last hunting you can do and have a pretty good chance of not seeing anyone. I hunt in Central Oregon usually over a good friend of mines Visalla. That dog is a stud when it comes to Chukars. Natural instinct is awesome.

My dad and I have hunted Chukars for years without a dog, after losing 3 birds 2 hours of hunting 2 years ago, i got sick of it and forked over the money for a Brittany. This year will be her first time out. We hunt Chukars on the Yakima Firing center. Usually get a limit a piece over 2 days, and that was without a dog cant wait to go this year.

The mind is ready but I am not so sure about the body. The area that I hunt chukar is pretty steep. Elevation gain over a day's hunt is about 1500 feet. I hunt with a Brittany. The drive to the hunting area is usually quite the ordeal. My dog gets soooooooooo excited that usually the last mile, she is whining and shaking. Then when you start hunting, she's always looking back and giving me the "YOU GOTTA KEEP UP WITH ME look.

I so love it!!!!

Does anyone know where to get the bumper sticker 257Magnum saw?

I have a chukar hunting website ( http://iron-horse.us/chukar/how_to_hunt_chukar.shtml ) and one of my readers sent me an email asking where he could buy one. I Googled it and found several references to it (including this thread) but couldn't find a place to buy it.
