I haven't really hunted them but I've shot plenty of them. A lot of friends and relatives of mine had barn pigeons. They came out together at the same time every day to feed and drink, they never strayed too far from their barn of residence even when I would thin out the flock. They're amazingly easy to hit, I would drop three or four with one shot. What's even more amazing was how good they tasted. Keep an eye out when you're driving near farms, the flock always circles the area a few times before going in for a full stop. Good luck with getting permission though, a lot of people like the stupid things even though they crap everywhere.

Eating pigeons!!?? That is not a good idea. Pigeons carry alot of desieses. Most falconers won't even feed there birds pigeons. Just find a barn and just hang out there and shoot away. In some places you can shoot 50 in one day.

I always walked into the barn and aimed at the grain window in the back. When the pigeons made a break for it, it lit 'em up from behind. I could usually get 5-6 that way.

Fed 'em to the cats.

We call it shooting not hunting! Couple times a year we load up the shot guns and head to the barn ,bang on the doors a couple of times ,out comes 20-30 birds, open fire and watch the feathers fly! Lots of fun!Never ate one, hope I never have too!

I sure wish you could shoot these little guys in town. They do **** everywhere. There are about 60 pigeons that sit on top of a church by my sisters house that I would love to take out with my BB gun. But the whole city ordinances and everything won't let me :( O well might not be the best to have a service then go outside and see 15 dead pigeons laying on the cement from falling off the roof :)

You just get dove decoys out there and make a blind, and they decoy in like ducks, its really fun. My friends and I are going to have a huge shoot in august our goal is atleast 100 birds, probably more though. These pigons just feed on wheat like the quail do.

Pigeon Hunting is a great pass time, and they eat just as well as doves. Pass shooting and hunting corn fields are very fun, just use the dead birds as decoys, they do wise up though, and can carry shot pretty good, much tougher to bring down than doves.

We called it pigeon pumping. since we all had pump guns back in the day.
We would go to farm silo's and throw a rock at the metal dome on top.
they would come out one after another, let the pumping begin.

I respect Blkdia for shooting, cooking, and eating the pigeons. Pigeons are certainly edible -- they are served in fine restaurants all over the world.

My dad taught me you don't just shoot animals for fun and leave them to rot. You eat what you hunt.

This idea of just slaughtering birds and making a big joke out of it . . . .

Doesn't fit my idea of sportsmanship.

I love zombie posts, there is something about a "good" post that will just not allow itself to die.

As has been mentioned, pigeaon are not bad eating as they are only large doves, after all the correct name for pigeon is Rock Dove. I shoot a lot of pigeons as I use barn birds for dog work. Breast them out, cut them into cubes, and mix it with some chicken stock, noodles, and vegetables for a great soup. I fix them the same as any upland game bird and they have always been good table fare.
Pigeons can be pretty wary as they are much smarter than people give them credit for. Shoot them a few times and they learn to spot danger as well as any duck, goose, or crow. They can decoy well though pass shooting is m preferred tactic as I do not get much chance to shoot that type of target. I use #6 lead shot as a pigeon can be tough to kill if they are the least bit wary. The larger shot also is more likely to pass through on closer shots which makes is much easier on the teeth.

I myself have come to let the world know what kind of sport they are really missing out on...

Pigeon hunting, not jut barn busting, is like sushi... You may think its a stupid idea until you try it... What is not to love about shooting birds that decoy better than any duck known to man. Can offer some of the most challenging shots. No Limit, No Rules, No Seasons, and eat just fine...

I have had the priviledge of hunting with the Soar No More crew and will hopefully make a cameo on the next video... "Hint, if any of you guys see this..." They have some great decoys... Its a sport that is very affordable to get into and offers some fantastic shooting. Scout them just like Waterfowl, and use some of your layout blinds, along with the new MOJO teal decoy.... bam.. and your addicted..

and besides alot of them come down with some leg bling....

There's nothing better then going out and shootin a bunch of Barn Ducks. However We feed them to the barn cats. We go to 5 diffrent farms and but the smackdown on pigeons, It's great! Something fun and pretty inexpensive to do on a nice saturday or sunday. No need for decoys and calls and all that stuff, Walk out in a field someday, you can shoot more morning doves just walking around, they are all over, I shot 2 in one shot out duck hunting this year.
