I'm pretty new to deer hunting. I've never tried calling like using grunts, rattling, etc. I'm sure that at different parts of the rut, different calls should be used. I'm also sure that the types of calls vary, to some extent, by state or part of the country. Does anyone have any suggestions on websites or, can anyone offer info on it?
I have only called in one deer. A small doe with the Primos Can. Other then that rattling and calls have not done anything for me. I guess the buck to doe ratio has alot to do with the reactions you might get....

I do alot of calling. It's not going to insure you that you get or see a deer, but I think it helps.Back when I started hunting about 22-24 yrs ago you didn't hear much of grunt calls. The first one I bought worked really well, like I said, not many people was doing it.So with that said,I think if you're going to give a try, then do it sparingly. It does work.Just use it at the right time, and don't give up on it if you don't get a response.

I called in 3 does 2 weekends ago...
I used a "calf" lost contact call....they came right to me. Too small though...2 were yearlings, like 3 months old.
